People’s Choice Awards’ biggest winners of the night include Shadowhunters and Infinity War

The People’s Choice Awards was Sunday night, and fan favorites like Avengers: Infinity War and Shadowhunters took home the big awards. Check out the award show highlights and entire list of winners.

Every year, the People’s Choice Awards gives all of us a chance to vote on our favorite movies, television shows, music, and more moments in pop culture. The People’s Choice Awards happened this last Sunday, and the results are now in.

The event was hosted by E!, and this year was the 44th awards ceremony. Since the winners are those who get the popular vote, there are sometimes some surprising wins in certain categories, and there are other winners that come as expected.

For Movie of the Year, Avengers: Infinity War pulled out on top to overtake Black Panther. Infinity War also took the Action Movie of 2018 category. The male movie star overall winner this year was Chadwick Boseman for Black Panther, and (keeping it in the MCU) the female movie star overall winner was Scarlett Johansson for Infinity War. There were definitely a lot of wins for Marvel movies, but the Johansson win is an interesting one since she wasn’t even featured that much in Infinity War.

Since these winners are determined by popular vote, it’s also easy to see how certain fandoms rally to ensure that their favorite show or actors win. This might explain why Shadowhunters won so many categories this year, even though the show has been canceled.

As far as music categories are concerned, the K-pop group BTS had a lot of wins. They took home the People’s Choice Award for group, song, and best music video. Nicki Minaj also won a couple of PCA’s this year, beating out other artists such as Cardi B and Ariana Grande.

Another surprising win was that Keeping Up With the Kardashians won the reality television category over some really popular reality TV shows such as Queer Eye and RuPaul’s Drag Race. Who would have known Keeping Up With the Kardashians is still as popular as it is after all these years?

A couple of other important wins to note include Incredibles 2 taking home the People’s Choice Award for the family movie category. Surprisingly, The Spy Who Dumped Me won best comedy over movies like Crazy Rich Asians. Maybe people got confused and didn’t realize you could vote for a romantic comedy? That seems like a strange choice.

While nobody’s favorites are going to win every category, it is always fascinating to see who ends up winning in some of these categories.
