4 singers who could spearhead the inevitable Shrek reboot soundtrack

Illumination Entertainment loves to have great soundtracks for its movies, so here are four artists who could pull off a good soundtrack for the upcoming Shrek reboot.

To quote the infamous Thanos: “It’s frightening… I ask you, to what end? Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. And now, it’s here.” No, I’m not talking about the erasure of half the universe, I’m talking about the Shrek reboot that’s currently in the works. We should have all seen it coming, and now there’s nothing else to do but sit back and accept the fact that this was indeed destiny.

But if anyone who gets grumpy about reboots wants to look on the bright side, the Shrek reboot is being produced by Illumination Entertainment. Like a fever dream Pixar, they’ve put out hit after hit including Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets. And, to make it even better, they’ve gotten some solid songs from their movies. Pharrell took the lead in the Despicable Me movies, and no one will ever forget “Happy.” And just recently, Tyler, the Creator admittedly put out a pretty decent original song for The Grinch.

That being said, gone are the days of “All Star” and “Hallelujah.” Here are four artists who fit Illumination’s vision of hip-hoppy, smooth soundtracks for the Shrek reboot.

Chance the Rapper

It’s clear that Chance the Rapper is one the most delightful rappers out there right now, and he and his songs always give off a message of positivity. And that kind of positivity is what a feel-good movie like Shrek could bring. Plus, Chance the Rapper always seems like a kid-at-heart on social media, and we’re sure his daughter would love the fact that her dad gets to work on Shrek.

Childish Gambino

I can’t give myself 100 percent credit for this one. This comes as a joke from Tumblr user snatchr. But in all honesty, Childish Gambino’s fun and smooth vibes are pretty much on par with what we’ve heard from Illumination’s soundtracks so far. Never mind if Donald Glover wants to retire Childish Gambino. Curating and creating songs for a movie sounds a lot more lax, so it shouldn’t be that bad… right?

Post Malone

Cringe if you want, but Post Malone plus Shrek just already sounds like the right kind of cringe combo to make this work. Nonetheless, you have to give it up to a 23-year-old Post, who broke Michael Jackson’s record on the Billboard charts. The recording artist already did an original song for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so spearheading an entire soundtrack would only be the next logical step.

Syd Tha Kid

If Illumination was impressed with Tyler, the Creator, then Syd Tha Kid should be their next choice. Syd, the lead singer of the band The Internet, has often collaborated with Tyler, the Creator and other members of the group Odd Future. Syd’s sounds are a lot more mellow, so if a chill sound is what they want for the new Shrek, then look no further than Syd.

Read. The Grinch reviews can't stop talking about the 2000 Grinch movie. light

Illumination can thank us all later for these suggestions. Because if we’re going to get a Shrek reboot, the least they could do is give it a great soundtrack. Act wisely, Illumination.
