Ezra Miller on his #MeToo story, climate change, and how he identifies himself (if at all)

Ezra Miller is set to star in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald but in his daily life, he isn’t as concerned about the fame.

We seriously can’t get enough of Ezra Miller. Not only is he gorgeous and talented, but he embraces who he is fully and is an inspiration because of that for so many.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter for its Next Gen issue, Miller opened up about a lot of things. He doesn’t shy away from being unapologetically itself, and we love his weirdness and creativity. Here are five of our favorite moments from the interview.

His 95-acre farm in Vermont is a retreat from Hollywood life

The whole farm thing in and of itself is pretty glorious. During the interview which took place at said farm, Miller was “barefoot with chipped nail polish and wearing a unicorn costume” which is frankly amazing. He didn’t want to talk too much about his fame but instead wanted to focus on other topics such as fossil fuels. Miller purchased the farm in 2017, and notes it was a place he loved very much growing up.

For a celebrity, he’s fairly chill

When not filming blockbuster films like Justice League and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Miller hangs out on his farm. He also has a “polyamorous community of friends and spiritual advisers milling about the farm” on any given day. The interviewee also noted that there was a lot of marijuana smoke around. Sounds like this farm has a lot going for it.

The #MeToo movement and Miller’s own experience with harassment

Things got more serious as the interview turned to Miller’s experience with being harassed. A director and producer, who he doesn’t name, gave him wine while he was underage and asked him if he wanted “to be in our movie about gay revolution.”

Miller said he is glad that the #MeToo movement happened because, “It’s a great f—in’ age of being like, ‘You know what? That shit’s unacceptable,’ And it’s amazing for a lot of us to watch. ‘Cause, like, we all knew it was unacceptable when we fucking survived it. That’s what Hollywood is. I thought we all knew we were sex workers.”

He’s very passionate about the subject of climate change

While Miller had a lot to say about topics such as the cult of celebrity and the problems in Hollywood, what really got him the most intense was talking about climate change. During the interview, the subject brought him to tears.

Miller said, “Gaia, we don’t understand her. We don’t understand how powerful she is. We don’t respect her rights,” he says, shaking. “I’m just an emotional person. I just feel things differently. Yes, I’m crying already in the interview.”

Miller won’t be labeled or boxed in

Miller has been discussed as being the first queer person to play a superhero as others like Ian McKellen have only played villians. When asked about identifying as queer Miller said, “Yeah, absolutely. Which is to say, I don’t identify. Like, f—k that,” he says. “Queer just means no, I don’t do that. I don’t identify as a man. I don’t identify as a woman. I barely identify as a human.”
