12 celebrities urging people to get out and vote today
It’s Election Day, which means it is time to get out and vote. And it’s not just the politicians encouraging people to vote, so are our favorite celebrities.
Election Day is here and while early voting has seen many people already doing their civic duty, for many people today is the day when they have their voice heard. And politicians are not the only ones urging their people to get out and vote. Celebrities have taken to social media to encourage their fans to head to the polls and cast their vote (no matter who they are voting for).
From Twitter to Facebook and Instagram, there is post upon post talking about the importance of taking part in this year’s Election Day. Even celebrities who don’t have the ability to vote in the elections are sharing their thoughts and reminding people why it is important to have your voice heard.
Lin-Manuel Miranda
On Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Twitter page, the man behind the hit Hamilton not only took the time to share his own voting experience, but also answer questions related to his political based play “on this gray Election Day.” Not only did he start the day with a good morning GIF of himself reminding people that there is nothing more important than getting out there and voting today, but he also shared a picture of himself after he had already voted. So if you are really looking for some voter inspiration, Miranda has you covered.
Mark Ruffalo
Mark Ruffalo posted a picture from the subway of a poster that said, “No apathy, laziness, or silence allowed during this election at any time.” In the caption, the actor said that today is the day people get to vote to make America whole and move the country forward. He also said that throughout the day, he would be sharing volunteer opportunities in his Instagram story to help with Election Day.
Cher
Cher took to her Twitter page to share messages about just how important it is to vote. From retweeting voting day messages, to posting her own thoughts, the singer has made it clear that she is dedicated to helping make a change through taking part in Election Day.
Lupita Nyong’o
From Black Panther to encouraging people to vote, Lupita Nyong’o is not afraid to show the world where she stands on important matters. And on Election Day, the actress shared a piece of voter art that was simple but truly powerful. There is power in voting and that was clearly the message in the art.
Susan Sarandon
Some celebrities like Susan Sarandon chose to keep things simple when encouraging people to vote on Election Day. Instead of including a fancy image, artwork, or a picture of herself, Sarandon shared a simple message that today is the day to get out and vote in order to “save the day.”
Don Cheadle
Another simple voter message came from Don Cheadle. He told his follower that no matter which way they are voting, it is important for people to get out and vote. It is all about showing up, and that is exactly what the actor told people to do.
Ryan Reynolds
Even Ryan Reynolds kept it simple today. After sharing a picture of himself and wife Blake Lively sending in their early voter ballots on October 23, the actor went with a simple get out and vote message on Election Day. Basically, Reynolds stuck with a just do it tweet for today’s voting tweet.
Liam Hemsworth
One of the celebrities who can’t vote in these elections is Liam Hemsworth. And yet he still took to the time to encourage his fans to vote on Instagram. In the post, he reminded people that for the last 10 years, he has lived in this country paying taxes. And even though he is not a citizen, he still “care[s] greatly about this country’s future.”
Rihanna
On Twitter, Rihanna retweeted a message about states that offer same-day registration, with a message of her own. The singer told her followers that today is “the most important day of the rest of your lives!” She also said that if people are looking to make a difference, then today is the day and it is all about voting.
Jennifer Lopez
On the eve of Election Day, Jennifer Lopez posted a 45-second video in which she encouraged everyone to vote. She made it clear that she would be voting today, and she is encouraging everyone she knows to do the same thing. Lopez also said that all the high-profile people telling people to vote aren’t trying to say they know everything, but rather they are all human beings hoping to make life better for each of us.
Mariah Carey
Even Mariah Carey posted a video to Twitter telling her followers to vote. In her video, she told people to find out where their polling place and let their voices be heard.
Bill Clinton
And of course, there were plenty of politicians who chimed in to tell people to vote, and while normally a former president wouldn’t make the list of celebrities encouraging people to vote, we simply couldn’t leave Bill Clinton off our list. The reason we loved this message is because it is a reminder that there is no “us versus them.” Our country is for all of us. And that is why we vote.
All it takes is heading to any social media platform and you will find hundreds of posts encouraging people to vote. Hopefully, these celebrities have encouraged the masses to let their voices be heard, and let their vote count.
