The Good Place gave us the timeline for the afterlife—Jeremy Bearimy. In it, there may just be a clue about how to resolve this season’s big problem.
A few episodes ago on The Good Place, Michael gave our four humans the truth of the matter. It was a lot to take in, and most of them handled it exactly how you’d expect.
One thing we did learn about was the timeline of the afterlife. After all—they were tortured for hundreds of years in hundreds of different iterations. Michael explains how time flows in a Jeremy Bearimy way. Things happen before they happen and sometimes they don’t happen at all.
The most hilarious part of it—the part that broke Chidi completely—was the “i” in Bearimy. That particular dot, not connected to a single thing, is Tuesdays and also July. And sometimes never.
It’s hilarious and dumb and of course, it would be the final straw for Chidi to believe any of this.
But looking back now, it looks pretty darn significant.
There’s a lot at stake this season, what with none of our humans able to make it to the Good Place via the point system. They’re still being good people because it’s the right thing to do, but their souls are doomed to the Bad Place.
But are they?

First, Michael’s going to try every single loophole to get them to safety in the afterlife. He’s already talked about killing them and somehow grabbing them before they make it to the Bad Place. He’s prepared a manifesto for the Judge to read with his and Janet’s findings in hopes that it will make a difference.
Second, that whole ordeal with the dot in the Jeremy Bearimy timeline, while hilarious, feels like it’s more important than just a throwaway line… because The Good Place likes to toss out very important, very relevant factoids in throwaway comments. A good example is how Jason guessed from the start that they were on a game show, or Chidi mentioning how he thinks soulmates meet and it’s exactly how Eleanor greets him in this life redo.
What if the loophole to save them all is that dot in the Jeremy Bearimy timeline?
It’s a safe place, or so it sounds like. It’s where nothing ever happens. Is that where they need to survive? Can it be some sort of weird medium place?
The one big problem is that it’s in the afterlife. To get there, they do have a key. But they would have to sneak past the Judge, who may or may not still be binge-watching something on Netflix. And if the Doorman still has a soft spot for Michael, it may just be do-able.
There are too many possibilities for that silly little dot to just be a quick joke. This could solve all of their problems. And if Michael figures out how to get them there, maybe they’ll be all set to save their lives.
