There’s a good reason why A Star Is Born’s soundtrack won’t compete for 2019 Grammys

As much as we love the A Star Is Born soundtrack, only one of the song’s is eligible to compete for a Grammy this year. But that’s necessarily a bad thing.

If you’ve seen A Star Is Born, you know those songs just get stuck in your head. If you’re still hearing the lyrics to “Shallow” in your head at random times weeks after you watched the movie, you’re not the only one. While being a catchy song isn’t necessarily the only reason a song should be nominated for a Grammy, many of the songs from the A Star Is Born soundtrack are definitely worthy of being nominated.

The soundtrack has been doing great on the Billboard charts and is still on the top spot for the third week in a row. Many people have been wondering if the soundtrack would be a Grammy contender, but only one of the songs made the deadline of October 1 that was needed to be eligible.

“Shallow” was released on September 27 as a single while the rest of the soundtrack dropped on October 5. If they had released that soundtrack even just a few days earlier, it could have made the deadline and been eligible.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Producer Lynette Howell said the choice to release the soundtrack when they did was because of spoilers. “We didn’t want to release the soundtrack before the movie because the soundtrack really is the story of the film.”

So, while the soundtrack as a whole might not be a contender, maybe “Shallow” will get a Grammy nod in some shape or form.

The soundtrack is the first soundtrack to claim the number one spot for three weeks in a row, and, it’s also a big deal for Lady Gaga, too, as it’s her first album to spend three weeks at number one.

The film is also a possible contender for the Academy Awards this year. Many people expect A Star Is Born to get at least a couple of Oscar nominations, and Warner Brothers has submitted three songs from the movie to be considered for Oscar nominations.

We hope that “Shallow” gets recognized by the Grammys, and we are excited to see if any tracks are nominated for the 2019 Academy Awards as well!
