Is Dracula truly dead?
Oh yes, we’re going to ask this question. This is Dracula we’re talking about, so there’s no reason why the most epic vampire of all time may simply be gone two seasons into Castlevania.
This season, we saw Count Dracula slowly decrease in energy and spirit, with many calling his war with humans a suicide mission of his own. Following the death of his wife, the vampire essentially wanted to watch the world burn — but it wasn’t until this season that we learned he’d be fine burning down with it all.
His war council constantly questions his lack of planning, such as what will vampires eat if all the humans are gone. Those loyal to him begin to worry about his ability to lead, as the once powerful Dracula turns into essentially a weary, depressed old man who complains of being tired all the time. Despite the horrible things he’s done, it’s hard not to feel sorry for the vampire.
We see Dracula’s tale seemingly come to an end during a battle within his castle against his son, Alucard. The final moments take place in Alucard’s childhood bedroom, and when Dracula realizes this, he breaks down with guilt. He moans to his dead wife that if he’s trying to kill his boy, the last living memory of her, then he must have died a long time ago. Alucard takes this chance to kill his father, and we watch as his terrifying spirit escapes from his body and then crumbles to ash.
The interesting thing about Castlevania and the iconic character of Dracula is that death doesn’t seem to be final. While a host of new villains could make season 3 an interesting viewing, we wouldn’t count Dracula out.
