Zachary Levi might not be a stranger to superhero movies thanks to his role in the last two Thor movies, but in Shazam!, he is the star of the show. And he’s excited!
The DCEU has been a mixed bag when it comes to giving us superhero movies we enjoy and want to watch more of. However, there are still a few movies and characters we are looking forward to seeing on the big screen. This includes Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Wonder Woman sequel.
However, one of the more fun and exciting offerings coming from the DCEU is Zachary Levi’s Shazam!. And according to ComicBook.com, fans of the actor and his character aren’t the only ones excited about the movie when it hits theaters in 2019. Levi himself is also excited about the opportunity to become a superhero on the big screen and has no problem geeking out about the fact he has been given the chance to play the role of a lifetime.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor shared that there were a lot of moments when they were filming where he would think to himself, “Holy crap, I’m a bona fide superhero, and I want to look like this the whole time.” While talking about the different moments when he really felt like a superhero, Levi explained that there were plenty of times when he would have to do the “stand and look,” and it just seemed to click.
The actor also shared one moment in particular that really stuck out for him. “There was one where it was like this mist and fog, and I’m standing up like this big strong heroic pose, and the light from my chest was like shining through the mist, and it felt really cool in the moment.”
Zachary Levi still seems to be surprised that he is playing a superhero on the big screen, but he is savoring every moment of it. In fact, he admitted that he never thought he would get the part after they cast Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam (one of Shazam’s main villains). He even tried out for a different role, but once the producers, director, and the studio saw him, they believed they had their man.
And because of the way he was cast for the part, Levi is able to relate to the character of Billy Batson (the boy who transforms into Shazam), because the wizard saw something in Billy that led to him getting powers. The studio, producers, and director saw something in the actor that made them believe he could be their superhero. So really, it feels like it was always meant to be all around.
Just like Levi is excited to become a superhero on the big screen, we are excited to see it happen. We can’t wait for Shazam! to hit theaters on April 5, 2019, to see what the actor can do now that he is a bona fide hero.
