Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Fans react to the finale’s twists
The finale of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has fans feeling a lot of emotions and ready for season 2 to get here ASAP.
Like many people this weekend, I couldn’t resist binging Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. While not the perfect show by any means, it definitely hits the right mood and aesthetic for the weekend before Halloween, and sometimes you just need to give yourself some witchy, spooky feels with a side of teen drama.
There’s a lot to analyze and talk about when it comes to this show. The casting and acting were honestly pretty delightful the majority of the time, and there were many badass moments. But, if there’s one thing that is confusing fans of the series across the board, it’s the season finale. (Warning: it’s time for some spoilers.)
Watching a Netflix show is always so great until you reach the end. It all happens so fast … and then you have to wait for more. It’s a very feast and famine experience. With the ending of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, fans are left wondering which direction the next season is going to go. The finale also garnered a lot of mixed emotions from fans. Many were confused at why the show would take such a turn, while others thought it was a great way to mix things up.
Many fans, and I have to say I probably am in this boat, wondered why the show would spend so much time and energy having Sabrina prove that her mortal life and friends are important, just to have her walk away from that so suddenly.
It did feel rather abrupt to see her end things with Harvey and then have her end up as the new leader of the Weird Sisters. Her hair and makeup do look amazing at that very end moment, and it was definitely a look many are living for. But it seems like they just undid the entire theme and point of her character throughout the entire season arc in the last couple of minutes of the show.
The next season will likely bring more twists and turns, and we are sure that her relationship with Harvey will still play a large role. We also bet that there will be complexities related to her new witchy self now that she’s signed the Book of the Beast.
I honestly was a bit disappointed that she signs the book. While she will likely struggle in the next season once more with this theme of freedom versus power, it feels like a let down that it all ends so abruptly after this season-long fight she’s in to remain autonomous. I really expected her to not do it, and the way everything was wrapped up just fell a little flat and disappointing.
Luckily, there will be a season 2, and Shipka herself has said that Sabrina’s new acceptance of her witch self might not be as simple as it seems. In an interview with IndieWire she said, “Without spoiling anything in season 2, there’s a lot of mourning of her mortality.” We are ready for more of that witch teenage angst. Bring it on!
