Mayans M.C. preview: The Reyes family faces a new threat

On this week’s episode of Mayans M.C., EZ and Angel are at the mercy of the law, and Lincoln Potter.

Will the Reyes family ever catch a break?

That’s the question most fans of Mayans M.C. are asking themselves right now. Most of the show’s first season has revolved around the misfortune of the Reyes men, some of it undeserved, some brought about by bad choices.

The latest string of bad luck seems to be a combo of both. EZ and Angel are spending some bonding time behind bars after being caught with a dead body in the back of their car. It wasn’t their car of course, and the dead body didn’t belong to them either, but that doesn’t mean much to the Feds, particularly Lincoln Potter (Ray McKinnon) the latest villain trying to make his mark on the series before it ends.

Potter knows all about EZ’s deal to stay out of prison and how he’s been spending his time — gathering info on Galindo’s dealings — so it’s a safe bet that he’ll clue Angel in on his brother’s betrayal. Or, at the very least, he’ll use the threat of revealing that information to force EZ to do his bidding. Either way, EZ’s in deep you-know-what.

Another club member currently in hot water: Coco.

You’ll recall he recently drowned his own mother after his daughter Lettie falsely accused the woman of beating her. Last week, we saw Coco and EZ get high and make small talk over the body before EZ was charged with getting rid of it. Now that EZ and Angel are in custody and the cops know who the car and the dead mother belong to, it’s only a matter of time before Coco pops up on their radar.

Sadly, this could mean the end for the most unhinged biker in the gang.

Coco’s life has felt marked since the beginning of this show when Angel recruited him to help the rebels and Bishop began suspecting Coco of being the mole in the club. After his erratic behavior these past few episodes, it’s hard to imagine he’ll just cooperate peacefully with the police and turn himself in.

As sad as it would be to see Coco bite the bullet, a major death is due at some point before the season ends. This is Kurt Sutter we’re talking about after all. The showrunner does not mind killing his darlings.

If it’s not Coco, it could be Felipe Reyes, the man who’s been running from his past all season and seems to be positioning himself against Potter, Galindo, and the rebels. He’s a character with good intentions, which means he’ll always be on the chopping block in this universe.

Here’s a preview of “Serpiente/Chikchan”:

Whether we get a major death this week or not, big changes are afoot for Mayans M.C. With Potter making his power play, Galindo is forced to change his own tactics. He wants badly to screw over the U.S. government but is smartly advised against that. On the other hand, Adelita and her rebels have already proven they can hit him where it hurts, both personally and professionally. Galindo’s going to have to make a tough decision too, one that might put himself, his business, and his family at risk.

In other words, no one’s truly safe on this show, so prepare yourself for the worst before this week’s episode airs.
