Meghan Markle’s first royal photo and Invictus Games speech delight Twitter
Meghan Markle just added yet another skill to her royal resume, with Twitter lighting up over her first official photo on the social media platform.
Before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex by tying the knot with Prince Harry, she enjoyed a successful career as an actress. Now Markle has shown that she is skilled behind the camera as well as in front, with Twitter cheering for her first official photo. As for the subject? It just happens to be her royal husband, Prince Harry, reported People.
Markle took the photo of Harry during their rehearsals for the Invictus Games. The 37-year-old Duchess and her 34-year-old husband gave speeches at the Invictus Games’ closing ceremony.
Kensington Palace shared Markle’s photo on Twitter, identifying her as the photographer in the post with a tiny camera emoji next to the words “The Duchess of Sussex.”
In addition to Markle and Harry, the Kensington Palace Twitter account is shared with Kate Middleton and Prince William.
But Markle has much more experience with social media than her royal husband, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law. Prior to her engagement to Prince Harry last year, Markle was a lively presence on both Twitter and Instagram.
Once she was engaged, however, Markle deleted her social media accounts. Her decision follows royal tradition, which calls for members of the royal family to share social media accounts rather than have their own individual ones. Princess Eugenie marks the single exception to that guideline.
Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games, which celebrates wounded veterans and service members. And although his speech at the closing ceremony was expected, Markle’s speech provided a happy surprise for her fans.
The Duchess’ Twitter fans praised her as well as Harry in response to Kensington Palace’s tweet about the occasion.
In her speech, Markle described her presence at the games as an “honor.” She also paid tribute to Prince Harry, noting that she was pleased to support her husband at the event that he founded four years ago.
“In a short span of time, the games have evolved into an international platform of some of the best athletics and sportsmanship you could ever witness, coupled with a camaraderie and close-knit community, which can only be defined as the Invictus spirit,” summed up the Duchess.
