Jude Law discusses how he prepared for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
By Callum Gunn
Jude Law shared how he prepared for the role of Young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which involved sleight of hand and Picasso.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star Jude Law appeared on The Graham Norton Show last night, Oct. 26, in the UK. Law appeared on the show to discuss his role as Young Dumbledore in the next installment of the Wizarding World franchise.
During the show, Law spoke about how he went about preparing for the role. Now, before we get into what he did, just have a think about what you would do in preparation for such a role. How would you prepare to play the role of Young Dumbledore?

I’m sure we can all agree that we would read all for the Harry Potter books and watch all of the movies at least several hundred times. Same goes for the Fantastic Beasts franchise and all of the extra readings as well, like A History of Magic, Quidditch Through the Ages, etc.
We would probably all have our very own Dumbledore outfit as well, both old and young. And yes that includes the half-moon spectacles and Elder Wand.
I don’t think many of us, maybe a small handful at best would have gone down the path Law did. His preparation involved studying Picasso, for perfecting his wand technique, and learning sleight of hand tricks and well.
Its something that needs to be commended and praised, but sadly something that was hugely unnecessary. Law went on to reveal during The Graham Norton Show that when it came to using his wand and casting spells, he only performs the one in the entire movie. So a lot of effort for very little reward. However, it wasn’t as much wasted effort as the sleight of hands lessons, as he was told that they “CGI all of that stuff.”
Poor Jude Law, at least he can show of his new found skills to his family and friends.
Eddie Redmayne was also on The Graham Norton Show who spoke about how he had no idea what to do with his wand.
