Harry Potter: The best advice ever given by Albus Dumbledore

Albus Dumbledore was full of advice, he practically oozed advice, but this is the very best advice he ever gave in Harry Potter.

Literature is filled with advice for the readers; it’s what makes books so powerful. When it came to Harry Potter however, the advice given to readers was off the charts. Especially from one particular character, Albus Dumbledore.

Dumbledore, for what of a better word, practically oozed advice. Every character in Harry Potter gave advice for the reader, but for every bit of advice that say Hermione gave, or Sirius gave, Dumbledore gave about ten times as much. He was the king of advice. Or should I say, Headmaster?

However, of all the advice that Dumbledore gave, some was obviously much better advice than others. We remember and take to heart, certain phrases much more than others.

So let’s take a look at that now. Here is what I think is, and you are quite welcome to disagree and tell me what is, the best advice that Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore gave throughout the entire Harry Potter franchise.

"“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”"

Brought to us in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore was clearly giving Harry this wonderful piece of advice at the time.

"“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”"

From Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Dumbledore tells everyone this during the sorting feast at the beginning of the year at Hogwarts

"“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”"

Dumbledore again gave these words directly to Harry after he had discovered the Mirror of Erised in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

"“It matters not what someone is born but what they grow to be.”"

One of my favorite lines of all time. Dumbledore spoke these words directly to Cornelius Fudge in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

"“One can never have enough socks,”"

Another favorite, but not my all time. Dumbledore spoke this line to Harry when he asked him what he saw in the Mirror of Erised in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It’s a favorite because it left me wondering if it was a lie, or actually the truth; because to be fair, he isn’t wrong, you can never have enough socks.
