Tidelands is coming to Netflix to creep you out through the end of 2018

Netflix apparently has more horror-adjacent series to keep the scares coming throughout the rest of the year, thanks to the Tidelands trailer.

There is no time limit on watching spooky or scary television. Yes, Netflix is definitely boosting that sort of thing this month with Netflix & Chills, but the first season of Stranger Things arrived in the summer, and holiday horror has been a genre for a long, long time. Granted, it doesn’t look like Tidelands really fits in with the idea of holiday horror, since it’s set on a beach in Australia, but hey, watching a beach is almost as good as going to one in the depths of winter.

Before you pause at the mention of Australia, do note that yes, this series is an Australian original for Netflix — the very first (no, really). That means that there are plenty of Aussie accents everywhere.

Check out the trailer below:

Amongst all the creepy aspects of the series, we’ve picked out a few details one may enjoy while being frightened. One, who can deny that pretty people with supernatural problems is sometimes exactly what you need? Fortunately, it’s not another vampire series — Legacies on The CW should cover that for the foreseeable future — but rather sirens, according to Gizmodo as linked above. Second, there’s not a reliance on flash in this trailer. There’s certainly some suggestions of what these Tidelanders are capable of, but it seems the surprises will have to wait until we actually see the series.

The series is also described as “supernatural crime drama,” which means that it’s not quite like anything that’s on television (or streaming) right now. Sure, Supernatural gets close, but for all that the Winchesters and their allies impersonate law enforcement, they aren’t actually law enforcement.

Also, there are very few shows that can’t be improved by a little light murder — because of course there’s going to be murder in this. It seems pretty inevitable based on the trailer.

Oh, and just in case you needed a little incentive to watch? Elsa Pataky is in it, so there’s a bit of a Marvel connection: she’s married to Chris Hemsworth.
