Dancing with the Stars week 5 power rankings: No one waltzes like Juan Pablo Di Pace

1 of 3

While some still had some issues in their dances, Disney Night on Dancing with the Stars proved to be just what some top-tier couples needed.

The Disney references on this week’s Dancing with the Stars started as soon as the opening number kicked off, with lots of flashing lights, great costumes, and more than a little Charleston influence before Mickey Mouse descended from the ceiling in a bedazzled outfit appropriate for the ballroom. Mickey even danced a little! (Seriously, props to whoever was in the costume because that could not have been easy.)

Ultimately, we would have put the eliminated couple here, but no one actually got eliminated last night.

That means we’re going to get straight into the low tier.

9. Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson: 17

The smile on Joe’s face was still pretty tentative for most of this routine, but it seemed more genuine. They had a pretty limited space for most of their jive, and it suited it, since it wasn’t necessarily as bouncy as most jives are. There was also quite an interlude where he didn’t actually dance. Again, some of that is the song, but it’s clear he’s still improving, slowly but surely.

“That was a vast improvement!” Carrie Ann said, praising how he didn’t miss a step. Even though it’s only week 5, there has to be more than the “baby step” at this point. Bruno said he saw in this week’s performance.

8. Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess: 21

In a lot of ways, Bobby and Joe have some similarities in that what we’re looking for in their routines is improvements and just doing their best. Here’s the thing: Bobby is, for all that he’s a little wacky, clearly very enthusiastic and even had some pretty lines. Granted, his prince Eric was still Bobby as all get out.

Bruno noted that there were a few missteps, and Carrie Ann praised his steps forward. Len even noted that he “played it straight” and dubbed it a “proper waltz.”

Is it enough to get him out of the low tier? Well, no.
