Ryan Reynolds is a talented and hilarious actor. We’ve all seen his amazing trolling moments on social media, but what else should we know about him?

There are very few celebrities that we can say are the true kings and queens of social media. Ryan Reynolds easily tops the list. We all love the talented Deadpool actor and have come to love his hilarious trolling moments, especially with his wife Blake Lively.

In celebration of Ryan’s 42nd birthday today, we’ve compiled six fun facts that you should know about the actor.

1. He got his ears pierced when he was a kid

Ryan really wanted to get his ears pierced when he was younger. The youngest of four brothers, he told them his idea and they immediately tried to shut it down, “My brothers told me, ‘Our dad will murder you!’ I did it anyway,” Reynolds revealed to People when he was honored with the Sexiest Man Alive title in 2010.

Reynolds’ dad did not, in fact, “murder” him as his brothers thought. Probably because his brothers also got their ears pierced to lessen the blow, “At dinner, I hear him muttering, and Dad is looking at my brothers, who got their ears pierced so I wouldn’t get murdered.” How sweet is that? Ryan clearly has good older brothers that will have his back no matter what.

2. He once smuggled apple pies across the Canadian border

Ryan is typically a stickler for the rules, but when it comes to a certain Canadian dessert, all bets are off. It’s illegal to bring any fruits or vegetables across the Canadian border into the U.S., but that didn’t stop Ryan from bringing apple pies back home to share with his wife. While on the Graham Norton Show, he revealed that he had the delicious dessert in his car and lied to the border patrol officer about them. Though it was clear that the officer didn’t believe him, he still let Ryan and the pies go, but not before asking for a special request…

3. For his daughter’s birth, he played the song “Let’s Get it On”

We all know just how sweet and caring Ryan can be because of his adorable interactions and relationship with Blake Lively. Now the father of two daughters, Ryan has proven to be one of the best dads ever. He loves his girls and would do anything for them. While talking with Seth Meyers on his late night show, he revealed that before his second daughter was born, Ryan played the song “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye while Blake was in labor. He serenaded his wife as she was having contractions and according to him, she was not having any of it. “It was like steak knives came out of her eyes,” he said.

4. He took the wrong bus in the name of love

Ryan claims that as a kid he was in no way “smooth” with the ladies. “I went through puberty at like 27,” he joked with Graham Norton when asked about his love life. One particular story he told about one of his first crushes involved a girl from his school who lived on the other side of town from him. He would purposely get on the wrong bus just to sit next to her and ended up going farther than he needed to every time. It wasn’t until he had a little embarrassing mishap one day that he stopped getting on the wrong bus and couldn’t look at his crush in the eye anymore. Find out what happened in the video below.

5. He was first recognized at 15 for the show Fifteen

Ryan’s first big gig was on a drama called Fifteen which aired on Nickelodeon. The show was first aired in Canada under a different name (Hillside), and revolves around teens in high school who are all in the midst of drama between their classmates and are seen dealing with bullies, making friends, alcohol, drugs, and abuse. In fact, this show was the reason why Reynolds was first recognized by a fan. The first time he was recognized in public was in a McDonalds when he was fifteen years old, “I went to McDonald’s. I was on a Nickelodeon show, Fifteen. A kid asked for my autograph.”

6. He did a voice over for an Air Canada Ad

Born and raised in Vancouver, Ryan has always considered Canada his home. When the airline Air Canada offered him a narrating role for their newest ad, he immediately said yes. He got the script and was drawn to the way that it defines “home.”

"I felt a connection to this script because I know what it’s like to carry that feeling of home with me wherever I go. Being a Canadian who travels all over the world, I understand how my home made me who I am and the special regard people everywhere have for Canada. But what’s even more exciting to me is that Air Canada, through the Air Canada Foundation, has been involved with Canadian charities like SickKids, an organization I’ve also been fortunate to work with."

The ad is definitely a beautiful one and really makes us think about our definition of home. And, of course, Ryan does a wonderful job narrating it for us. Watch the video below:
