Fall colors may signal the change of seasons, but they are one of nature’s stunning vistas. Throughout the United States, numerous cities are transformed into a vibrant display of color. As the crisp autumn air settles in, these shades of red and orange linger for just a short period of time. Before those vivid leaves fade away, why not take a quick weekend getaway to see nature’s canvas?
Picking a quick weekend getaway to see all those multihued trees doesn’t have to be a huge endeavor. Sometimes the trip can be just a car ride away. Throughout the United States, several major cities have begun the colorful time of year.
Here are a few suggested cities to enjoy the vibrant colors of fall.
Chicago, Illinois
Before the Windy City becomes part of the frigid tundra, the fall in Chicago is a multi-colored celebration of the season. Even in the heart of downtown Chicago, the local parks are filled with trees whose leaves are flecked with reds and golds.
For visitors looking for a visit beyond the Lakeshore, head to the Morton Arboretum for a magnificent display of autumn delights. Located about an hour west of Chicago, Morton Arboretum offers some of the best fall color viewing. 1,700 acres of nature’s wonders are enveloped in Vermillion, crimson and gold.
To best enjoy the experience, park the car and take a walk along the trails. Wind throughout the trees and leaves. Also, a picture here is better than any man-made selfie wall.

The old saying that Virginia is for lovers can be a love of nature, too. During fall, the scenic mountains and majestic rivers are the backdrop to the colorful trees. Throughout the city, there are numerous outdoor spaces to explore. For example, the Virginia Capital Trails offers beautiful scenic views and a wonderful spot to explore.
Boston, Massachusetts
While Boston is rich with history, the fall foliage is equally impressive. Sometimes referred to as America’s Walking City, a leisurely stroll around Boston can be filled with spectacular colors.
