There’s now a petition by fans to bring Luke Cage back

Fans are rallying together to bring Marvel’s Luke Cage back with a petition after it was unsuspectingly canceled by Netflix on Friday.

There’s really no stopping Marvel fans when they put their mind to something. It could be creating the most masterful cosplay or seeing Avengers: Infinity War dozens of times over, but Marvel fans know: if there’s a will, there’s a way.

That’s why it should come as no surprise that Marvel fans have come together to bring back their beloved Netflix show, Luke Cage. The show was canceled by the streaming giant on Friday seemingly out of nowhere. And that announcement left many shocked and disappointed that Netflix could cancel such a fan favorite.

Now, a petition on Change.org is hoping to fix all that. Simply titled “Bring Back Luke Cage,” the petition already has over 2,000 signatures after two days and is rapidly growing. The founder of the petition, named Luke Hunter on the website, writes:

"Luke Cage is the finest Marvel show in existence. It exemplifies [heroics], sassy banter, great music, and family fun. The cancellation of this beloved show is utterly flabbergasting. We must fight to save our hero of Harlem as he fights for us."

In the comments, there was an outpour of support from fans who wanted to sound off after signing the petition.

One commenter with the screenname Iron Twist, wrote: “Luke Cage in two season [sic] brought more than just new characters. Watching this show you felt like you were already in Harlem. Great music and climate made this production so marvelous, magnificent and irreplaceable.”

Others simply sounded off to say that Luke Cage was a great show, even one of their favorites, and they want Netflix to bring it back. At this point, though, it’s unlikely that Netflix could be the one bringing the show back because of one main competitor on the horizon: the Disney streaming service.

With Luke Cage and Iron Fist free from Netflix’s grasp, this means Marvel could work toward having all of its TV shows in one place. That would still be a pretty big task, considering they have other shows on Hulu, Freeform, and ABC. But Disney is just as headstrong as its Marvel fans. So never say never.

However things turn out as the petition pushes toward its 2,500 signature goal, it goes without saying that this is tremendous work from the Marvel fandom. Surely, with an act like this, it’s getting them on the top of our Fandom 250, which means they could come out as one of the top fandoms this year. The year is quickly coming to a close, so all will be revealed soon.
