While the series has been highly successful among fans and also with critics, especially in earlier seasons, it looks like our time enjoying the goings-on at Litchfield will come to an end soon.
“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison. I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black,” Kohan told Variety.

Time moves so quickly. We’re at the end of the road. This show has been apart of my life for 7 yrs! I’ve been given the chance to stretch myself as an actress, further my reach as an activist, and have become a more confident woman because of this show. I am forever grateful- 🍊 pic.twitter.com/j9LiJvbpSo

The series has starred a wide array of celebrities such as Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, and Samira Wiley. Many of the stars of the show have moved on to quite a bit of success since the show and OITNB definitely really launched the careers of people such as Cox and Wiley.
Orange is the New Black has had numerous Emmy nominations and a few Emmy wins, including two for Aduba who won supporting actress in a comedy series and then drama series two years in a row in 2014 and 2015. (The requirements changed so the show went from being considered a comedy to being considered a drama between those two years).
A lot of wild things have happened in this series since it started, and some of the storylines have been more successful than others. How the series wraps up will remain to be seen. And, hey, at least fans have one entire season to look forward to before they have to say goodbye. Fans can hope that the series is wrapped up with resolution and happy endings for most of the characters who are left.
The release date for the seventh season has not been set yet, but it will come out sometime in 2019. Showrunner Jenji Kohan will remain on until the end of the show.
