We might not be able to graduate from Hogwarts, but there are jobs from the world of Harry Potter that we can go out and do in the real world.

And no, I am not talking about the very obvious jobs like being a teacher or being a bus driver or conductor. I am talking about jobs that you would think only exist in Harry Potter, but in actual fact are perfectly doable here in the real world.

So while it may be disappointing to have not received our letter to Hogwarts, and graduate from the finest school of witchcraft and wizardry. We can, at the very least, live a normal life with a  career that Harry, Ron or Hermione could have pursued.

More from Harry Potter

Number 1: The Potions Master

Yes, you really can be a Potions Master and become the next Severus Snape or Horace Slughorn. You certainly won’t be calling yourself a Potions Master, however, unless you really really want to get some odd looks, in the real world you will be known as a Chemist.

A career which you might think is nothing like an actual Potions Master, but in truth, being a Chemist is the exact same thing. Because at the end of the day, all a Chemist is doing is adding different ingredients together in a predetermined sequence in order to create a desired substance.

Which is exactly the same thing as a Potions Master.

So, if you feel like you have the skills to brew some magic, despite being a muggle, becoming a Chemist is precisely the career path to choose.

Number 2: Auror

If you were like me when reading the Harry Potter novels, your ideal job was being a Dark Wizard Catcher. You envisioned yourself chasing after evil witches and wizards and bringing them to justice. Witches such as Tonks, wizards, the likes of Mad-Eye Moody and Kingsley Sahckelbolt, were your idols.

And you can be one of them in the real world. It won’t be as dramatic, missing all the magic and all, but you can still go into a career where you bring down the bad guys and make the world a better place.

So if you want to be the muggle version of an Auror, strive to be a cop, a detective, an undercover secret agent or anything involving law enforcement really.

Number 3: Professional Quidditch Player

Do you think you have what it takes to be a professional Quidditch player? Because this is no joke, if you want to be one you can. The sport is internationally recognized, so if you want to be a chaser, seeker, keeper, or beater, you damn well can be.

The sport is played on broomsticks, and the fundamentals of the game remain the same. Some tweaks have been made, the broomsticks obviously don’t fly, and the Golden Snitch is a living person running around trying to avoid capture, but in essence, the spirit of the game remains.

You probably won’t be able to make a living out of it however so make sure you have a plan B just in case.

Number 4: Dragon Keeper

We are going to take a look at two jobs the eldest Weasley brothers did during Harry Potter‘s time at Hogwarts, with the first being Charlie, who worked as a Dragon Keeper.

A damn cool job, and one that Hagrid was certainly envious off, it’s not for anyone though. You certainly had to be made of some pretty tough stuff, have a fondness for magical creatures, could stand being outside most of the day, and didn’t mind the occasional burn.

Being a Dragon Keeper in the muggle world is certainly possible, it might not be as interesting and dramatic as the Wizarding World version but if you want to be a legitimate Dragon Keeper lookout for careers that involve taking care of the Komodo Dragon.

Number 5: Curse-breaker

Moving onto Bill Weasely now and his career as a Curse-breaker. We don’t know a huge amount of detail about what he did day to day, but from what little information we can gather from Ron’s stories about his brother, it involves ancient runes.

And our imagination strives off to an Indiana Jones type character of sorts. An archaeologist who tackles the most dangerous of environments.

You can become an archeologist in the muggle world, so if you want to be a Curse-breaker like Bill, go for it.

Number 6: Singing Sorceress

Even the Wizarding World has rock bands. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, we were introduced to Celestina Warbeck, the internationally acclaimed singer sometimes referred to as the Singing Sorceress.

A career that is by no means out of the reach of us. You can start your own band if you want to. All need is a few mates and some instruments. Heck, you can just go solo if you want to. You can even go that extra mile and add a Harry Potter twist to your band.

There are some bands already out there doing it know, The Blibbering Humdingers and The Butterbeer Experience to name a few.

Number 7: Driver of the Hogwarts Express

I don’t know why, but for some reason, I never thought the Hogwarts Express had a driver. Which is daft because the driver is referenced to in the books. Yet for some reason, I liked to assume that the train was driven by magic.

However it wasn’t, there was a driver and since it is a train you can obviously do that job in the muggle world. But, that isn’t the special part, the really special part is you can be ‘THE’ driver of the Hogwarts Express.

Fans can ride the actual Hogwarts Express route in Scotland, and that train is going to need a driver. So someone, somewhere, is working as the driver of the Hogwarts Express.
