Nicole Kidman is nearly unrecognizable as a detective with a dark past in new Destroyer trailer
Watch the new trailer for Destroyer, starring Nicole Kidman and Sebastian Stan.
Destroyer, directed by Karyn Kusama, stars Nicole Kidman as a tortured detective who has a past that’s not so lawful or clean. The film also features Sebastian Stan and Tatiana Maslany. Kusama is best known for her work on Jennifer’s Body, starring Megan Foxx. She also worked with Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the writer for Destroyer, on the film Æon Flux.
In the movie, Kidman plays Erin Bell who is an experienced LAPD detective. The film explores her past when she went undercover with a gang in California. The events that happened during this undercover stint have been plaguing her ever since. In the film, the leader of the gang comes back into her life, and Erin gets the opportunity to face her demons while she confronts and takes down the gang members.
Destroyer has already been shown at film festivals such as TIFF and Telluride. It will also show next month at AFI Fest and then be released across the United States in December. Fans of Kidman and Stan have been waiting for the trailer for a while now, and you can finally watch it here.
The film has already been receiving overall positive reviews by critics. It appears that the film follows a crime noir direction and narrative that isn’t too outside of the norm. Fans of the genre will recognize the tropes in the film, but, because of the performances by Kidman and others, the film stands out.
Even in the trailer, it’s clear that Kidman is pulling out all of her acting chops. She looks intense and haunted, and we can’t wait to see the film and her entire performance. Of course, Sebastian Stan fans are also excited to see him in this new, gritty role, and, from what we briefly see of him in the trailer, his performance looks promising.
This definitely looks like a film worth checking out with its theatrical release in December.
