The Good Place left us last week with a ridiculous cliffhanger, per normal. How will our four humans react? And what will Michael tell them?
The Good Place isn’t itself if it doesn’t end an episode with a fun cliffhanger! Right? …Right?
Anyway, last week’s episode ended with Michael about to sneak into the Judge’s chambers to reset the timeline on Earth… only for the four humans to walk in and see the magical door.
That’s a bit of an issue and a lot of interference on Michael’s part.
Here’s the synopsis for this week’s episode, courtesy of NBC:
"The group explores the three main branches of ethical thought."
Okay, that’s a vague synopsis, but when does The Good Place ever give us much of anything?
You have to think that Michael fills them in on what’s going on. We know that the Judge said they can’t know they’re getting their just desserts, but does she know how much Michael has already interfered?
If he tells them what they’re actually doing, Chidi probably takes it upon himself to look at it ethically. Their study group has something larger to focus on now than just their own experiences…
Well, and how much will Michael tell them? That he saved them all from their untimely demises? Can you imagine the panic that would induce for Chidi? He’d be vexed! It’ll be up to Eleanor to talk him out of his spiral, like she’s done so many times.
And, as always, Jason will just be confused and not know what’s going on. Per normal.
But they’ll definitely have to look at different ethical philosophies to figure out their course of action. Can Janet tell them the point system? Can they rack up points if they know they’re doing it to get a better afterlife? We thought no because of the season one episode where Tahani tries to make it up from the bottom, but that was also a ruse.
Will they really be able to put aside their futures in the afterlife to better themselves just to better themselves? The Good Place likes to push the envelope. We’ll see what happens with this particular big reveal.
