The empowering meaning behind Princess Eugenie’s backless wedding dress

The second royal wedding of the year arrived on October 12 with Princess Eugenie marrying her longtime partner Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle. And she did it in an empowering dress.

Princess Eugenie is the second of Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren to get married this year, and she did it in true style. While her ceremony was all of things we expected it to be as a royal wedding, from grand and elegant to traditional and stunning, it is her wedding dress that we simply have to talk about.

The wedding dress in question was by Christopher De Vos and Peter Pilotto, and was sheer perfection. Princess Eugenie made an empowering statement in her v-neck gown with a low back that did not include a veil.

It was a gorgeous dress that helped make the princess shine on her big day, but it is the personal message of the gown that we think is so special. As a child, Princess Eugenie suffered from scoliosis. And at just 12-years-old, she needed to undergo major surgery on her spine in order to correct the curvature the condition caused.

Unsurprisingly, this surgery left behind scars, and by wearing a dress with a low-cut back (although it is still a rather conservative dress in comparison to most low back dresses), Princess Eugenie was clearly embracing those scars. This was most likely a very deliberate move on the part of the bride, as she did an interview prior to the wedding in which she spoke about embracing the marks on a person’s skin.

“I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it’s really special to stand up for that,” the princess said during an interview with ITV’s “This Morning.”

And with her wedding dress, she did just that. She allowed the world to see her scars and not only was it an empowering moment for her, but for anyone who has scars that they might be afraid to show others.

Meghan Markle’s wedding dress may be on display soon, to the delight of royal fans. light. Related Story
