If you were in deep thought over if Johnny Depp would be back after Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, then wonder no more. Depp himself has confirmed that he will be back for Fantastic Beasts 3.
During the Zurich Film Festival, Depp spoke to Collider about his new movie Richard Says Goodbye, where he plays the role of a terminally ill college professor. Naturally, the conversation turned to his past roles and upcoming roles, including Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
When asked the very simple question about if he enjoyed playing the role of Grindelwald, Depp had the following to say.
"I loved it yeah……..The possibilities in that world are wide open, so you can really try anything. So it was a gas and I look forward to the next installment, which I think we start the middle of next year."
So there you have it, straight from the man himself. Depp will be back in Fantastic Beasts 3 as Grindelwald, and it looks like filming will begin in 2019 as well.

So for Grindelwald to exit after the second movie would make very little sense. However, with the controversy and concern over his casting, there has been whispering calls for Depp to be removed from the franchise and the role of Grindelwald should go to another.
So to hear some form of confirmation by Depp himself makes it very clear where things stand in the Fanastic Beasts franchise camp.
