Rupert Grint considered quitting midway through Harry Potter
By Callum Gunn
The Harry Potter franchise could have looked very different towards the end as Rupert Grint considered leaving part way through.
Thankfully it never came to be, but could you have imagined it? Rupert Grint quitting the Harry Potter franchise midway through? I honestly couldn’t imagine someone else playing the role but it nearly did happen.
The shocking revelation came out during an interview Grint conducted with the Independent. While discussing what life was like growing up playing the role of Ron Weasley, it came out that he considered leaving.

This was during the fourth installment of the movies, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. By then the movies were nothing short but world-renowned, so if Grint did decide that he no longer wanted to carry on it would have been quite something at the time.

"“I had just finished my GCSEs,” he says. “I thought ‘Do I actually want to keep doing this? It’s a bit of a drag.’ Because obviously it’s a big sacrifice. You take for granted anonymity, just doing normal stuff, just going out. Everything was different and a little bit scary. There were times when I was like ‘I’m done.’”"
In all honesty, though, you can certainly see where he is coming from. While Grint did praise that there were many good things about being involved in Harry Potter you do have to wonder if the good did outweigh the bad.
I am sure all of us would wonder if the good did outweigh the constant attention, especially at such a young age. So while it is really shocking and surprising to learn that Ron might not have been Ron from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phonix onwards, you have to admit, you can see why.
Like I said at the start though, thankfully it didn’t happen and Grint stayed on throughout the rest of the franchise. He is now promoting his current TV series, Snatch, which is about to debut it’s second season. Snatch is about a group of hustlers who ended up in the elite world of crime by chance and try to navigate their way through it.
