J.K. Rowling explains Quidditch scoring and it is magically brilliant!

The Quidditch scoring system is a bit questionable, but J.K. Rowling had her reason for making it so and it is utterly brilliant.

Quidditch is brilliant, let’s just get that out there right now. There is not a single person I know who wouldn’t love to have a go at the Wizarding World sport. Ever since J.K. Rowling introduced it in Harry Potter we have all been rather obsessed with the game.

However, the scoring system is a little bit questionable.

More from Harry Potter

Just like any other game, in order to win a game of Quidditch, you need the most points. In order to gain points, you either score a goal with the Quaffle, which will award you ten points. Or, you need to catch the Golden Snitch, which will award you 150 points.

Quidditch itself doesn’t end until the Snitch is caught so this presents a number of problems. One is that the team that catches the Snitch usually wins because their score suddenly jumps up 150 points, and because it then ends the game, it gives the other team no chance of catching up.

Another issue is if your team happens to be down by 150 points, so catching the Snitch wouldn’t win you the game, why would you seek it out and catch it? There is no incentive to do such a thing.

It’s a head-scratcher that many of us mere muggles have debated over time and time again.

However, debate no more fellow muggles because J.K. Rowling has come out to speak about the Quidditch scoring system and her explanation is utterly magical and brilliant.

Honestly, this is just brilliant. You couldn’t ask for a better explanation of why the scoring system is the way it is. You can still not be a fan of it and think it is flawed, but you cannot deny how brilliant it is.

Once again though, what it truly shows, more than anything else, is how much depth and detail Rowling went into when creating Harry Potter and the entire Wizarding World.
