Charlie Cox wants to see another team-up of the Defenders

The first season of The Defenders might not have been as well received as Marvel and Netflix hoped, but Charlie Cox wants another shot at the team up.

Since the first Marvel series premiered on Netflix starring Charlie Cox as Daredevil, many fans have been excited about the material, especially considering how strong the quality of the shows have been. And some of that excitement stemmed from the fact that many fans were anticipating the major pay off of The Defenders.

The Defenders was the small screen’s answer to the MCU’s big screen Avengers team up. And that was an exciting prospect, but unfortunately for fans, the show just did not seem to hit the mark. But, that hasn’t diminished at least one person’s hope for a second season, as Charlie Cox told Metro that while the first season was “too slow,” he would be down for making a team up happen again.

According to Cox, what he enjoyed the most was the “dynamic” of working with the other members of the MCU’s small screen heroes. The actor explained: “In the process of doing Daredevil, I’ve kind of become a fan of those genre [sic] in a way I wasn’t before – so I do get a little kick out of these little Easter egg moments of when they may meet, how they interact and what that’s like.”

And while he does not know if there will be a second season, as Netflix has still not canceled or renewed The Defenders, Cox outright said that, “I would like to see it go again if that’s something they wanted to do.” He even had ideas for what he would want to see, including sticking to what these four heroes do best, being, “a little more boots on the ground. I don’t want to see us try to compete with the Avengers in terms of the scope. I’d like to see The Defenders in more of a crime drama that happens in Hell’s Kitchen underground.”

We definitely agree with Charlie Cox that the first season of The Defenders was too slow and even tried to be something more like the Avengers than it needed to be. But we also think what could make a second season work would be taking his idea of being on the ground and having the team take on a team of villains. And what better way to make that happen than have The Defenders take on what would essentially be the Dark Defenders?

Considering heroes like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have not killed their villains, we could totally see a team up of all the big bads from the different series. Having characters like Cottonmouth and Wilson Fisk come together in order to take on The Defenders would make for some excellent TV. And it allows the show to bring the heroes back together in an organic way, since they would have to work together to take down the villains they have battled before.

We don’t know if there will be another season of The Defenders, or even if a team-up of these heroes will ever happen again, but at least we know that one member of the team is willing to make it happen. And not only is Charlie Cox willing to make this happen, his thoughts on what would make it work seem like the kind of action fans would want to see.
