Could a Wreck-It Ralph ride be coming to Disney’s Magic Kingdom?

As the Magic Kingdom announces various ride closures, could a Wreck-It Ralph ride open in a vacant Tomorrowland location?

Could a Wreck-It Ralph ride be added to Tomorrowland? The iconic Magic Kingdom has announced a few updates, closures and other changes. From refurbishments to Tom Sawyer to a reconfiguration of the Tomorrowland Speedway, several changes are coming to the Disney theme park. While Disney has been vocal about some of these upcoming changes, one currently dark ride location has a veil of secrecy about it.

In anticipation of the Disney World’s big 50th-anniversary celebration in 2021, numerous additions and changes are coming to the various Orlando, Florida, Disney theme parks. While fans eagerly await the new Tron ride, Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Epcot and several other additions and changes, a few now-empty spaces have left fans wondering. One spot in particular is the now-defunct Stitch’s Great Escape.

Located in the Tomorrowland area, Stitch’s Great Escape never really resonated with many theme park guests. Even though fans loved the characters (there is even a live-action movie on the agenda), the ride itself was just a little disappointing. Earlier year, the ride closed for refurbishment. Now, Walt Disney World News Today is reporting that the ride has been permanently closed.

According to the site’s sources, the aliens and other animatronics have been dismantled. While the ride had only been in seasonal use, it did offer another indoor attraction during the long, hot Florida summer. Granted, the experience was a little clunky, but many people enjoyed it.

The permanent closure of this ride seems to show that the Magic Kingdom has a focus toward iconic properties and newer, popular characters. Sure, the princesses will always have a place at Disney, but newer franchises need representation at the theme park, too. While Walt Disney World News Today believes that a Wreck-It Ralph ride will replace Stitch’s Great Escape, other possibilities have merit as well.

Given the soon-to-be-released Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet, announcing a new ride with this theme would be smart. A lot of excitement is building over this movie. With the limited footprint in the existing space, a theme park ride that utilizes visuals over movement would make sense. Also, the video game theme blends nicely into Tomorrowland.

It is curious that the Magic Kingdom doesn’t have an Incredibles themed ride. This past summer, the Incredibles were everywhere in the Magic Kingdom. Disneyland has incorporated the popular super hero family into many of its re-furbished attractions. RunDisney offered Incredibles-themed virtual 5Ks over the summer. Given the huge success of this summer sequel, it is surprising that these characters don’t have a bigger presence in the Orlando Disney theme parks.

While there has been talk of adding Edna Mode into the People Mover experience, the Incredibles do deserve their own experience at Walt Disney World. Although Wreck-It Ralph does have a lot of appeal, Incredibles could hold a wider fan base.

Thinking about a Wreck-It Ralph ride, it could be an opportunity for Disney to incorporate a more interactive, technology-based ride. Virtual reality rides are becoming more popular. Also, these rides are coming adaptable to younger riders as well, as seen in the Great Lego Race coaster at LEGOLAND. If Disney could have guests feel as if they are inside the video game itself, the ride could become a huge hit.

Currently, all of these ideas are just speculation. Refurbishment dates for Tom Sawyer, Peter Pan’s Flight and Tomorrowland Speedway have been announced. Even though Stitch’s Great Escape remains closed, there are many other experiences at the Magic Kingdom to keep people busy.
