Good Omens trailer arrives with humor, apocalyptic drama, and David Tennant and Michael Sheen

We have our first look at the upcoming Good Omens TV series, and thanks to David Tennant and Michael Sheen it is both dramatic and humorous.

Based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens tells the tale of an angel and a demon who live on earth with relatively normal lives. And while the two shouldn’t get along (and they have their moments), they need to work together in order to stop the apocalypse which would destroy the home they have come to love after all these years.

Starring David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale, the Good Omens trailer starts with flashes of things these two have seen over the years. And of course, a phone call in which they both acknowledge they need to talk (to each other).

For 6,000 years these two have been friends, or at least that’s how Crowley sees it. And while Aziraphale thinks that because of who they are they are on opposite sides, Crowley is quick to remind him that they are on their own side. With Armageddon heading their way, this is especially true if they want to save the home they have both come to love (in their own ways).

With wonderful glimpses at both men with wings, and during the middle ages, it’s clear that Good Omens plans to show us who Crowley and Aziraphale are. These two have been through a lot together since being left on Earth when the Garden of Eden was still a thing, and now they have to really come together if they want to keep the “fascinating little restaurants where they know you,” and the “old bookshops.”

Aziraphale may have his doubts, since he is after all working with a demon here, but if he wants to save the world, he will have to deal with that. And even if they can’t stop the Armageddon, it looks like the audience is going to have a fun time watching these two working together to try at least.

Michael Sheen is perfect as the angel who denies being friends with a demon, even as the two have a long and storied history together. And David Tennant once more shines on-screen, even as a demon who is clearly full of mischief. Together these two are a charming mix of seriousness and humor.

Good Omens looks ready to bring the drama, humor, and excitement of the original story, with two actors who are always at the top of their game. And based on what we see so far, Sheen and Tennant are more than ready to bring amazing chemistry to two characters who are unlikely friends in a world about to end (well unless they can figure out how to put a stop to the apocalypse).
