The Good Place review: A demon walks into a study group

Trevor joins the group in The Good Place this week to make some new friends. But will he be able to derail Michael’s ultimate plans?

We’re back at it with The Good Place, though not necessarily in the Good Place. But we do get a Bad Place demon to show up! Where does this week’s episode take us? Let’s dive in and find out.

Let’s recap…

Trevor is the happiest, nicest person ever, who brings lemon bars and cries. And in an instant, he gets his demon look.

Michael intervenes on earth yet again, just to yell at Trevor. But it mostly ends up with Michael missing the mark on excellent comebacks. Janet shows up as their waitress and struggles to deal with not having her powers.

Trevor plays up the overly happy new best friend who’s eager about everything. Eleanor gets annoyed immediately (as would anyone) and Tahani looks just as annoyed.

He’s just so good at being annoying. I love Adam Scott, but man, I’m getting annoyed just watching his shtick. Which means he’s doing his demon job! He gets Jason and Tahani to leave together, breaks up Chidi and Eleanor, and Eleanor leaves a bar early!

Eleanor doesn’t show up to their next teaching session. Chidi spends most of the last half of the episode fretting over whether or not he can be friends with his test subjects. Which… I know he’s indecisive and overanalyzes everything, but can you blame him? This one actually kind of makes sense. Don’t make the study biased.

But it’s too much for him to take. Simone calls him a car to go get Eleanor before he even realizes what he wants to do.

On the eternal beings side of the show, The Doorman shows up and takes Michael, Janet, and Trevor back to meet with the Judge.

The Judge blames Michael for all the weird ripple effects that have happened. Like Britain leaving Europe. And the Jacksonville Jaguars actually being good. And The Greatest Showman doing so well.

There’s no more monitoring them. No more interfering. Except that Janet’s backlog of things she tried to summon on Earth block them from the Judge long enough to escape back to Earth.

This will be fun!

Favorite Lines and Moments

This week, it’s the headline “Hems-worthless” on the front of the magazine Eleanor reads. And the fact that the American restaurant is called Cowboy Skyscraper Buffet. You can’t get any more American than that.

I also failed to mention that The Judge also flicks Trevor away… into non-existence? Back to the Bad Place? Not really sure. I do hope we see him again. Maybe in the finale?

So Michael and Janet will be stuck on Earth with no powers and have to do stupid human stuff. And what happens if they ever go back to the Judge’s void area? Or do they somehow find a way to the real Good Place from Earth?

Your guess is as good as mine! We’ll just have to keep watching to find out.
