Joker’s Suicide Squad role is still being analyzed even with new Joker movies in the works

There is a new Joker in town thanks to Joaquin Phoenix, but that hasn’t slowed discussions about Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad Joker.

Ever since Suicide Squad was released in theaters in August 2016, there have been plenty of people who have criticized the movie. This includes the film’s director, David Ayer, who recently took the time to respond to a tweet about the Joker’s “damaged” tattoo in the film.

As CBR.com reported, David Ayer admitted that, “I have to fall on that sword. It was one step too far.” Over time, Jared Leto’s version of the Joker has been a source of contention for Suicide Squad, even as there have been talks about the character getting his own solo movie.

However, the reality is that we are still talking about the first Suicide Squad even as there is not only a new Joker in town, but Suicide Squad 2 is already in pre-production. And while Leto’s Joker did not play as large of a role in the first Suicide Squad movie as many thought he would, his part has still been the topic of many discussions since the movie released.

So while David Ayer has no problem pointing out that one of the tattoos featured on Jared Leto’s Joker was too much, we are still moving forward with new takes on this iconic villain. We are getting both a new Joker entirely, thanks to Joaquin Phoenix, and we are also getting a full-length movie for Leto’s take on the Batman bad guy. Plus, we don’t know if we will see more Joker in Suicide Squad 2 as well.

With the tattoo being a point of discussion right now, we actually wonder if it will be something that is addressed in Jared Leto’s solo movie. Maybe the movie will find a way to mysteriously erase the tattoo from the character’s forehead. And considering David Ayer will not be back to direct Suicide Squad 2, it is possible that even if the Joker does make another appearance, he won’t look the same as before (even if it is just a tattoo change).

With two different Jokers making their presence known in the DCEU, we think its possible that there will be plenty of changes moving forward. And we are okay with that. We know that Joaquin Phoenix’s take on the villain is going to be a gritty crime-noir type origin movie. And that alone is something new and fresh within the DCEU.

And while we have heard about the Jared Leto solo movie, we don’t really know what we will see or how they will make it unique and fresh. There simply hasn’t been enough information revealed about the film except that it will be expanding on what we saw in Suicide Squad.

Two different Jokers, one universe, and we can’t wait to see where the DCEU goes from here. The Clown Prince of Crime is stealing the spotlight, and even if the villainous character doesn’t show up in Suicide Squad 2, we will definitely be seeing a lot more of this bad guy in action.
