Meghan Markle and Serena Williams just became our new favorite BFFs

Serena Williams revealed that there’s been a special friend in her life that she’s been with through thick and thin. It’s none other than Duchess Meghan Markle.

We heart celebrity friendships almost as much as we admire Meghan Markle for smoothly segueing from star actress to adored duchess and Serena Williams for succeeding as a tennis pro/mom. So of course we were also delighted to learn that Meghan and Serena are best friends.

Serena Williams shares how she and Meghan Markle rely on each other

Williams revealed in a new interview with The Project news program that although she and Markle have known each other for a “long time,” the two celebrities recently have turned more to each other for support, reported People.

Serena was questioned as to whether she and Meghan offer advice to each other.

“We were actually just texting each other this morning,” admitted Williams.

In May, Serena was watching in the select crowd to see Meghan tie the knot with Prince Harry. And while the celebrity athlete has made history herself, she felt as if she was part of a historical moment during the royal wedding.

"I felt like we were literally watching history. I feel like in a few years, when I look back at that moment, it’s just gonna be so historic. It’s gonna be something people never forget."

But beyond experiencing history in the making, Williams was thrilled to see the joy on Markle’s face as she wed Prince Harry. Describing the service as “really wonderful,” the tennis star was happy to “see my friend be happy and I think that’s what happened.”

Media spotlight strengthens these BFF’s bond

Serena agreed when the interviewer noted that the celebrity athlete and the duchess seemed to have the most media attention at this point in their lives, reported Cosmopolitan.

“Right?” Serena said. “I would definitely agree…. We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently.”

Williams and Markle have been friends since 2010. Serena spent some time in England over the summer and viewed Prince Harry playing polo. In turn, Meghan attended Williams’ Wimbledon match.

Markle previously called the tennis star one of her “closest friends,” according to E! News. During her acting days on Suits, the actress had a lifestyle website, The Tig. Meghan wrote about how quickly their friendship grew.

"We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in, and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girly stuff. She quickly became a confidante I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down-to-Earth chick I was able to grab lunch with."

And beyond their fondness for fashion and “hot sauces,” apparently, Markle wrote that she and Serena are bonded by “endless ambition.”
