Rihanna is doing more than just working, she is making moves. From singer, to actress, to beauty entrepreneur, now, she’s an ambassador for Barbados.

When it comes to making moves, Rihanna knows exactly what she is doing. Beyond her work as a singer and actress, she is also a highly successful entrepreneur thanks to her Fenty line of beauty products. And now, the singer has also been named as an ambassador for her home country of Barbados (although this is not the first time).

According to CNN, Rihanna was appointed the title of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. In a statement issued by the government of Barbados, they explain that the role allows the singer to have certain responsibilities to her country. Specifically, the singer is tasked with, “responsibility for promoting education, tourism, and investment for the island.”

The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, explained that the reason the government chose Rihanna for this honor was because of her outstanding contributions to raising the profile of the country. Mottley shared that it is the singer’s love for her home, which is “reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education,” that made the decision to name her an ambassador such an easy one.

Beyond her artistic talents, Rihanna has proven herself as a highly successful businesswoman. And it makes sense that Barbados would want her to help in transforming their image on an international scale.

Back in 2008, the singer was named as a cultural ambassador for Barbados. She was in charge of doing promotional work in order to promote the tourism industry.

However, with her new title, there comes much greater responsibility. This is because the definition of plenipotentiary means, “a person, especially a diplomat, invested with the full power of independent action on behalf of their government, typically in a foreign country.” Beyond working to bring people to Barbados as tourists, it seems as if she will be working to bring business to the country as well.

It seems that this is a job that Rihanna is more than happy to embrace. When it comes to taking on this new ambassadorship, the singer shared that she, “couldn’t be more proud to take on such a prestigious title in my home country. Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I’m ready and excited to take on the responsibility.”
