This Is Us star Chrissy Metz shines in classic Hollywood look on Emmys red carpet
Chrissy Metz, famed as one of the breakout stars for This Is Us, stunned on the Emmy Awards red carpet in a gorgeous, glam emerald green gown.
Chrissy Metz had us from the pilot of This Is Us, captivating viewers with her story of a woman struggling to heal from the devastating death of her father. Her weight, rather than become her story line’s focus, has become symbolic of her challenges. But it’s also the reality that we still live in a world where size zero continues to be the goal for so many.
Like Melissa McCarthy before her, Chrissy has been candid about her weight even as she breaks all those style rules about plus-size women should wear on the red carpet. Metz’s decision to defy all those supposed plus-size fashion guidelines about wearing black and covering your arms became joyfully clear on the Emmy Awards red carpet last night.

The This Is Us star went for a classic, Hollywood glam look. Women’s Health pointed out that although Chrissy got snubbed when it came to being nominated for an Emmy award, Metz won when it came to her red carpet gown.
Chrissy’s design by John Paul Ataker fulfilled her goals of going for a “glamorous” appearance, and her sophisticated chignon completed the picture. As Access Hollywood tweeted, Metz was simply “stunning.”
Metz said that she appreciated her gown’s open neckline. She joked about the fabric, asking why the designer “gotta put so much fabric on a big girl?”

Chrissy Metz talks about her weight and Kate’s struggles
Chrissy’s character Kate on This Is Us is open with her friends about her feelings about her weight. Metz has been just as candid with her fans and the media.
The actress revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that she was “born chubby” and was “definitely always a chubbier kid.” While her friends could “eat whatever they wanted to,” Chrissy recalls knowing even as a child that if she ate “certain things I would totally gain weight. I had to be really cognizant of what I ate.”
Metz recalled attending Weight Watchers meetings when she was just 11-years-old. As the “youngest person in the damned room,” she felt “awkward.”
As for Kate’s battle on This Is Us, Chrissy appreciates how the writers have shown just how challenging it is for some women to lose weight.
"You get frustrated. Not that it’s a positive way to counteract the lack of weight loss by binging or having a little snack, but at some point you just can’t beat yourself up because it’s counterproductive… It’s a work in progress; nothing is ever going to be perfect… It’s important to see that she’s really trying, but she’s going to have a fall or two. She has to keep charging and that’s what I think a lot of people need — inspiration to know that we’re all in this together. We’re all works in progress and not everything is going to be perfect all the time. It’s important to show that."
With that reminder that Kate’s effort to lose weight won’t always be perfect, we feel that Metz’s red carpet appearance was close to perfection.
