Christina Aguilera is ‘down’ to duet with Britney Spears
Christina Aguilera is ready to record a song with Britney Spears, telling Jimmy Kimmel that it’s not too late for the former rivals to duet.
Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears fans, dust off your Mickey Mouse Club ears! Christina paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, where she served up a tasty helping of hope for those who’d love to hear Aguilera and Spears duet.
Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears as Mickey Mouse Club rivals
Christina, 37, and Britney, 36, grew up in the public spotlight, thanks to the Mickey Mouse Club. Aguilera hopped on board the club bandwagon at age 13, while Spears was a pre-teen at 12. Both young singers starred on the show in the early 1990s.
“When I was coming up, it was very obvious, you know, me and Britney were definitely… there was the Britney/Christina-considered rivalry thing,” admitted Aguilera.
As to what might have prevented that club clash, the “Genie in a Bottle” singer believes social media might have turned a feud into a friendship with the “Oops!… I Did It Again” songstress.
“If we had social media back then, we would have probably done a song together and just squashed it,” declared Christina.
About that duet….
Talk show host Kimmel caught the conversation ball and ran with it after Aguilera mused about teaming up with Spears for a song. The “What A Girl Wants” songstress responded to Jimmy’s point that she could still record the song with Britney.
“It’s probably not too late for that,” said Christina. “Hey, I’m down.”
So is that a yes? Aguilera offered up a “maybe,” instead saying that if Spears’ reps give it the okay, duet could become a reality.
What’s next for Christina Aguilera?
It’s been years since Christina went on tour. Now she’s finally getting ready to return to the world of touring again. As for why she waited for so long, Aguilera linked her hesitation to her devotion to parenting.
Christina also revealed that she remained in that oversized chair on The Voice as a coach for so long because of her children.
“I actually was in that rotating chair for so long because I was so afraid of touring with children, because, you know, routine is so important,” she admitted. “I’m a very hands-on mama bear. I was like, ‘I don’t want to break this up. How do people do this on tour?’”
But Aguilera decided that with help from her ex Jordan Bratman, she could tour at this point in her life.
“My son [Max] is older, so it’s important that he’s in school. But his dad is great. He’s going to hold down the fort here in L.A.” explained Christina.
Aguilera’s daughter plays a special role. Summer Rain, age 4, is her mom’s “road dog,” even joining Christina for rehearsals.
