Meghan Markle and Prince Harry expand their royal family in a fluffy, fun way: The newlyweds have taken their puppy love to the next level with a new dog.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may not be ready to have human kids, but the royal couple has added to their family by adopting a new dog, confirmed People.
Meghan Markle loves dogs
Markle is already known to be a dog lover. The 37-year-old former actress had two dogs prior to her marriage to Prince Harry. However, one of her beloved pets, Bogart, did not travel with Meghan when she moved from Toronto to London last November following her engagement. Markle found Bogart a loving home with some friends.
Meghan’s other dog, a beagle named Guy, is still part of her life. And now Guy has a new buddy.
Prince Harry’s and Meghan’s new dog
Prince Harry and Markle adopted their new pup, a Labrador, earlier this summer. The lucky dog has been enjoying quality pet time with the couple at their country home in the Cotswolds region as well as Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
Meghan is known to be athletic. Her former trainer, Craig McNamee, told Women’s Health that “fitness definitely takes priority; she’s very focused on her health.” Craig shared that Meghan is a runner who also practices yoga.
For Markle’s and Harry’s new Labrador, that enthusiasm for fitness makes the match perfect. The AKC points out that a Lab is “an enthusiastic athlete that requires lots of exercise… to keep physically and mentally fit.”
It’s a royal dog’s life
Put this one in the “adorable royal facts” category: Markle’s dog Gus helped his human mommy tie the knot. When Meghan was sitting to have her makeup and hair perfected by her glam squad before her wedding, Gus curled up loyally at her feet to supervise. Awwww!
Harry and his wife aren’t the only members of the royal family to get a dog soon after tying the knot. When his sister-in-law Kate Middleton and brother Prince William got married, one of their first joint activities as a couple was adopting a dog.
Kate and William chose a spaniel, Lupo, to join them in Anglesey, North Wales.
Meghan’s and Harry’s super summer
In addition to getting a dog, Markle and her prince took time this summer to visit Amal and George Clooney in Lake Como, Italy. George and Harry headed to the court to play basketball during the visit.
Meghan got an idea of what might await her if she and Harry have children. She and Amal cared for the Clooneys’ twins who are just 14 months old.
