Netflix has released not only the premiere date of their upcoming horror series, The Haunting of Hill House, but also new images.

It’s going to be a Halloween season filled with horror, terror, and scares on Netflix thanks to a new horror series set to debut. The streaming service announced on August 27 that their new series, The Haunting of Hill House will be premiering on October 12, just in time for the season of fright.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, the Netflix series is a new take on the novel The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Originally released in 1959, the novel has previously been turned into two movies (one in 1963 and again in 1999) and even a play.

The story follows two families, one in the past, and one in the modern day. Each family is shown dealing with ghosts that are haunting them in Hill House, although some of the ghosts haunting the members of the family are not in a literal sense.

On top of revealing when the series would begin streaming on Netflix, the service also unveiled some new images from the series, including an eerie look at the house itself. Not only does the house look haunted with boards over the window and light streaming through, but the yard is in such disarray that it is clear this is not a house to take lightly.

Another image shows Timothy Hutton’s character holding back Michiel Huisman with his arm, as the two look on in shock and perhaps even a bit of awe. While the image gives nothing away, it certainly helps inspire interest as to what exactly is happening in Hill House.

With multiple images being released for the series, horror fans are being given a taste of what is to come without giving anything away. None of the images show us what is haunting Hill House or the different families (past and present). Instead, we are shown the people themselves.

There is plenty of simplicity in the photos released, and yet they all inspire curiosity and interest. From the little girl calmly sitting on a bench next to a man covered in blood, to the mysterious red door in a room seemingly filled with black mold, these are pictures that give nothing away and yet make us want to know more.

Considering we have seen this story before on screen, it should be interesting to see how the Netflix series makes The Haunting of Hill House fresh and unique. While we certainly hope they stick to the source material in some instances, there are plenty of opportunities to make this series shine on its own as well.
