Did J.K. Rowling confirm the Harry Potter theory that Dumbledore is Death?

The theory of Dumbledore being death is a favorite amongst Harry Potter fans and J.K. Rowling may have confirmed that theory.

If you have never heard of the Harry Potter theory that Dumbledore is death then listen up. Because J.K. Rowling may have confirmed that Dumbledore is indeed death.

So the theory connects to the “Tale of Three Brothers” story that was told in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In the story, three brothers come across a river that is too dangerous to cross. They cast a spell to form a bridge and cross the river safely.

Death then appears before them. Feeling as though the brothers robbed him, Death decides to get his own back and offers each brother a gift.

The older brother asks for a wand that could not be rivaled by any other, the second asks for a resurrection stone and the third, who is suspicious of Death, asks to go forth without Death being able to follow him. This leads to Death handing over his very own invisibility cloak.

Both the older brother and second brother soon perish, however the third lives out a long life. When it is time for him to die he then hands over his cloak to his son and greets Death like an old friend.

Dumbledore is Death

A theory that circulates amongst the Harry Potter fandom is that the brothers are Voldemort, Snape, and Harry Potter.

Harry being the third brother is pretty obvious; he has an invisibility cloak that has been handed down to him by his father.

So how does this all fit into Dumbledore being Death?

Well, Dumbledore was the one to give Harry the cloak. He received it during his first year at Hogwarts during Christmas. In the story, Death was the one to give the cloak to the third brother. Also, when Harry was struck by Avada Kedavra, who did he meet? Dumbledore; like an old friend.

It’s a wonderful theory and you can’t really dispute the obvious connections. And when J.K. Rowling comes along and throws her hat into the ring, you have to wonder if it was right or not.

So did J.K. Rowling confirm the theory?

Maybe she did, maybe she didn’t. It depends how you interrupt her words. On the one hand she has 100% confirmed it, on the other; she has merely said she likes the theory.
