Tiffany Haddish has the absolute worst Thanksgiving in The Oath teaser trailer

Thanksgiving with your family or in-laws is never easy, but The Oath cranks that up to 100. It’s madness and sheer chaos that makes your Thanksgiving dinners look like nothing.

The 2016 election brought out the worst in some families, and it’s safe to say holiday dinners will probably never be the same again. But who says you can’t make fun of the (honestly) pointless arguments and crazy conspiracies we argue over with our relatives over the holidays?

That’s what the movie The Oath, starring Tiffany Haddish and The Mindy Project‘s Ike Barinholtz, is aiming to do this holiday season. And with its teaser trailer just released, it looks like the movie’s going to show what everyone’s Thanksgiving dinner nightmare looks like.

The movie features Haddish and Barinholtz as a married couple preparing for Thanksgiving dinner with his family. But just before the dinner begins, we hear about an “oath” that citizens will have to vote on by the Thanksgiving deadline.

Unfortunately, the teaser trailer doesn’t seem to focus too much on what this oath actually is, and instead jumps right into the chaos of what follows at dinner because of the new vote. Luckily, the films’ synopsis provides a bit more information about the most interesting plot point of the film:

"When Chris (Ike Barinholtz), a high-strung 24-hour progressive news junkie, and his more levelheaded wife Kai (Tiffany Haddish) learn that citizens are being asked to sign a loyalty oath to the President, their reaction is disbelief, followed by idealistic refusal."

The teaser also seems to leave out one of the other most important plot points of the film: the dinner gets shaken up when two government agents (John Cho and Billy Magnussen) arrive. It looks like by the teaser alone, the movie is trying to sell itself as the wacky movie that all American families can relate to during that time of year.

But if they really want to get audiences to see it, the full trailer should hopefully emphasize the actual title of the movie: the oath. Otherwise, it might leave audiences wondering why should they see the movie in the first place.
