His Dark Materials is getting some Harry Potter and the Cursed Child magic as Jack Thorne is to adapt the eight-part series.

Jack Thorne is pretty busy with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It dominated Britain’s West End and New York’s Broadway and now it is setting up to head to San Francisco, Australia, and even Germany. Yet somehow he magically finds time to work on His Dark Materials.

And how lucky they are to have him; the BBC has already announced the cast for the upcoming series. Ruth Wison, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and James McAvoy have already been cast for roles in His Dark Materials, which is based on the fantasy novels by British author Philip Pullman.

Director Tom Hooper, who is best known for his work in The King’s Speech, is to direct the first two episodes of the eight-part adaptation, all eight are to be adapted by Jack Thorne himself.

His Dark Materials is a series based from three novels by Pullman. Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. Northern Lights is, in fact, the British title for the story, in the US it is known as The Golden Compass.

The Golden Compass was made into a feature length movie. Unfortunately, it was not received well and was considered a complete flop on all accounts. Plans to complete the trilogy where scrapped and it has since been forgotten about.

Jack Thorne, therefore, has the very difficult task of making sure that doesn’t happen again. Albeit he is adapting the entire story in one go so has the advantage, considering his great work on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and other projects, he should be fine.

His Dark Materials is still in the early stages so no announcement of when the series will be released has been announced yet.
