Fantastic Beasts 2 trailers point to a big reveal connected to Voldemort

As more trailers and promotions come out for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, fans seem to think a big reveal related to Voldemort is coming.

Warning! These theories could mean potential spoilers for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. If you’re a fan of twist endings, you might not want this to be spoiled.

The first Fantastic Beasts movie set up the expanded world of Harry Potter outside of the UK in the movie universe. While we got to meet the author of the famed textbook and saw a brand new wizarding world in America, the movie set up only a few plot bridges between that prequel and the other Harry Potter movies.

But in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we might get an even bigger reveal that tells us more about the incredibly evil Lord Voldemort: how he came to acquire one of his most treasured Horcruxes, Nagini the snake. Fans have long been discussing what her origins could be, and once new promo pictures for the Fantastic Beasts 2 was released, fans thought they might have gotten the best clue yet.

In a cast photo (as pointed out by Screen Rant), a lot of alarms went off when fans saw the mysterious character seen with Credence. As early as November of 2017, fan theories began to pour out thinking that this mystery woman (played by Claudia Kim) is in fact, the human form of Nagini.

One theorist on YouTube pointed out that Kim’s character goes by no name but “Maledictus,” which is a term meaning “the carrier of a blood curse that destines her ultimately to transform into a beast.” Some even found the clues as simple as looking at her clothing, in which her stockings, in particular, look to be a snakeskin pattern.

The evidence came together even more with photographs posted on Pottermore, along with the official teaser trailer for the movie. That’s where we get more glimpses into the strange character known as Maledictus, who appears to be part of a circus act to show off her rare abilities. The teaser and trailer show us glimpses of that circus. Although, one scene has what looks like the most obvious clue.

In one shot, seen under the “wizarding circus” section on the Pottermore article, there are two large posters featuring two acts. On the left, one poster features the act “Maledictus” with a rather large snake front and center. That could certainly mean that Kim’s character has the ability to transform herself into the rather large snake, but could she truly be Nagini?

The Harry Potter world only dates Nagini’s history so far prior to her meeting with Voldemort. And Fantastic Beasts 2 could provide a new look into that character who’s kept so many Potter fans buzzing. These glaring clues make it seem very obvious that something here is being set up — perhaps even as early as the first movie, where the wizarding circus was supposedly set to be featured back then.

We know J.K. Rowling has a history of backtracking on some of the Harry Potter lore, but this well-constructed backstory would be a delight if true. Now, the only thing left to figure out is how Nagini gets herself permanently stuck in her human form, and how she wanders off to meet Voldemort in the first place
