“Put on (one’s) dancing shoes” meaning: To be ready to dance, as at a party or other celebratory event.
This phrase alludes to the idea that a person will be having so much fun, and dancing so much, that they better have on comfortable shoes.
In typical Mamma Mia! fashion, characters most often are not wearing any shoes. Or in even more boring fashion, they’ve slapped on some practical flats as an afterthought. IMO shoes make an outfit, and these movies skimp on the whole package in general. Moving on.
What’s very cute and ’70s-inspired, and totally on trend? Clogs, of course! Not-so-coincidentally, because I’m a genius, clogs are considered DANCING SHOES! And, also not-so-coincidentally, they’re a popular Swedish shoe. SWEDISH DANCING QUEENS ABBA OMG.
Obviously “clogs!” is the answer to any question about the perfect vintage footwear of the ’70s. While I’d typically add that they should be of the platform variety, I recommend against walking far on old-ass streets, and climbing hills in platform soles. So, I recommend these little pretties.
