Colin Trevorrow is directing Jurassic World 3 and after the way Fallen Kingdom ended, one can only imagine how the third movie is going to shape up.
From the initial Jurassic Park franchise to the updated Jurassic World movies, audiences have watched as people have visited a park or island where dinosaurs were brought back from extinction. While each entry of the franchises has been exciting in its own way, it seems as if the third movie in the Jurassic World series is actually going to be a very unique film all on its own.
Director Colin Trevorrow has saidan interview with Empire Magazine that following the events of Fallen Kingdom, audiences are going to see very new territory explored with the return of the dinosaurs. And considering how Fallen Kingdom ended, we totally understand what he means.
At the end of Fallen Kingdom, after bidders attempted to get their hands on dinosaurs taken off of the island of Isla Nublar prior to a volcanic eruption, audiences watched as many of those dinosaurs were released out into the world. As we watched, we saw the T. Rex confront a lion, Blue scaling mountains and looking out over a city, and pterodactyls flying over the land and sea. Essentially the dinosaurs are loose and taking over North America.
According to Colin Trevorrow, at the end of Fallen Kingdom, his entire goal was to have people see the shifting of the world’s equilibrium now that the dinosaurs have been unleashed. And not only is this going to have an effect on the characters we’ve grown to in many ways care for, but it’s also going to have an impact on their world.
Moving forward with Jurassic World, nothing is ever going to be the same as it was when these franchises started. And considering they have never ended one of these films with dinosaurs loose in the world, it makes sense that the third film in the new series is going to “take this into a place that is truly exciting and something that we haven’t seen before.”
For Trevorrow, Jurassic World 3 is a pay off of sorts. He explained that there is a “dinosaur movie that I’ve always wanted to see,” and now that they have gotten the first two films and their stories out of the way, it has been earned.
J.A. Bayona, who directed Fallen Kingdom, revealed that there were things that were cut from the movie because they felt like they were “more like a Jurassic 3 scene.” They were moments that they felt would be better served by a film that already had dinosaurs spread across the globe.
In fact, the two directors actually worked together in order to make sure that things in Fallen Kingdom would be able to tie into Jurassic World 3. Whether it was a specific line or a moment, there were times when Colin Trevorrow would weigh in and ask for certain things to happen in order to enrich the next film.
