The 100: What does the ending of How We Get To Peace mean for Wonkru?

The final scene of this week’s episode of The 100 was a shocking one, but it certainly didn’t solve all of humanity’s problems. In fact, it may have created a few more.

In a shocking twist, this week’s episode of The 100 ended with Bellamy poisoning his own sister to save his loved ones and prevent a war. He uses Monty’s latest batch of algae to put Octavia into a coma, rendering her incapable of marching against Eligius.

In addition to this, he makes a deal with Diyoza: If Wonkru surrenders, they can share the valley with the Eligius prisoners.

There’s one problem with this: It isn’t what Octavia wanted, and her followers are radically loyal to her. Even without her presence, they may remain true to her command. Even worse, it’s possible they’ll see through Bellamy’s act and realize that he’s the one who poisoned her.

With all of this in mind, it’s incredibly unlikely that Clarke’s and Bellamy’s problems will end with Octavia’s reign. Loyal to a fault, Wonkru may still attempt to execute Clarke for her crimes. And as they’re all nearly as bloodthirsty as Octavia, they’ll probably march on Eligius without their leader.

There’s also the question of who will replace Bloodreina. Wonkru is a young group, and they’ve only ever had one leader. There was never reason to discuss succession, and now Wonkru will need to determine how they select their leaders. Will they veer toward democracy, or will the strongest take control by default?

The grounders may also return to “the time of the commanders.” If they discover that Madi is a true-born Nightblood, it’s possible that she’ll be sought out as their leader. Clarke won’t enjoy this any more than Octavia’s rule, but Madi does seem a bit more merciful.

Whatever decision is made, there’s bound to be disagreement among the hundreds of people that comprise Wonkru. And we know how they handle such disputes. The next few episodes of The 100 are sure to be full of action (and maybe even a few gladiator-style fights).
