When Tandy and Tyrone finally get together, Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger really starts to soar. How much do these two characters need each other? Quite a bit.

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger wants to amp up the stakes in this week’s episode. Tandy and Tyrone finally have a nice sit-down conversation about what’s going on. And we learn a little bit more about our side-characters.

Let’s dive in!

Not-So-Short Summary

We start up exactly where the last episode ended. Tyrone explains what he saw in his voodoo bath (people’s fears), Tandy hints on what she saw (people’s hopes).

MARVEL’S CLOAK & DAGGER – “Call/Response” – Tandy and Tyrone come face to face as the two are able to sit down and talk. Having not been able to tell anyone else what they have been experiencing, both take the opportunity to finally confide in the one person who may truly understand what they are going through. Meanwhile, Otis reveals a secret side of himself and Greg seems to be onto something with MelissaÕs case against Roxxon. This episode of “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” airs Thursday, June 21 (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. EDT) on Freeform. (Freeform/Alfonso Bresciani)

It really is fun to watch these two actors play off each other, build up each other’s characters. Tandy gives Tyrone guidance on how to go about exacting his revenge on his cop.

And then Tandy suggests they test their powers. How close can they get to each other before their powers trigger? Turns out… not very close.

But hey, at least they have someone to talk to about it. Even though it ends on a sour note, both of them telling each other to go to hell.

The episode splits itself up between their conversation in that church and how they both act in the aftermath. It’s a cool narrative. And makes sure we aren’t stuck with a lot of exposition all at once.

In the aftermath, we see two characters who have grown much more thanks to one conversation. Tandy takes a bigger interest in her mom’s boyfriend’s case against Roxxon. She also uses her powers to see if she can trust him and see his hopes (a happy family with her and her mother). And then dives headfirst into helping him with the case.

Unfortunately, things don’t go so well. While Tandy bonds with Greg, her mom decides he’s like all the other boyfriends and dumps him. When Tandy goes to try to keep up the relationship, she witnesses him get shot in the head in his office and a mysterious woman set fire to all of the Roxxon files.

Tyrone feels more empowered, doing things with more purpose. He tries Tandy’s tactic at the police station, but chickens out. And then ends up in some hot water with his father, who turns out to actually be really cool. He was once part of the Mardi Gras Indians, which gives Tyrone some perspective.

MARVEL’S CLOAK & DAGGER – “First Light” – ÒMarvelÕs Cloak & DaggerÓ is the story of Tandy Bowen and Tyrone JohnsonÐ two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. The only constant in their lives is danger and each other. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to control the power of darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart. The series premieres on Thursday, June 7th with a two-hour premiere starting at 8 PM ET/PT. (Freeform/Alfonso Bresciani)

In it, he finds — you guessed it! — a cloak. A cloak that belonged to his brother that remains unfinished.

The episode ends with Tandy going to the beach, heavy chains wrapped around her ankles. She dives in. And makes a dagger light to save herself. She also goes back to get the files in Greg’s safe. Tyrone heads into detective O’Reilly’s office.

Badass Moment of the Week

Tyrone and Tandy testing out their powers, only to be thrown in completely opposite directions was pretty cool.

Tyrone is incredibly optimistic, and it’s kind of nice to see it when he snaps talking to Tandy and telling her to check her privilege.

Next week’s Cloak and Dagger dives deeper into the Roxxon mystery. And it looks like Tyrone’s back in some serious basketball action.
