Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been in London and is now in New York. Now it’s making its way to Melbourne, Australia. Just where else could the theater production go?

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has broken records and started to travel the world. After initially opening on London’s West End, it’s now made its way to New York’s Broadway and will soon head to Melbourne, Australia. This has opened numerous possibilities, as theaters around the world want to see the magical production head to their locations—and fans want to see it too!

It’s time to look at the biggest contenders; the places that the production really should visit in the world. After all, there are Harry Potter fans everywhere who would love to see this continuation. Here are nine places Harry Potter and the Cursed Child should go next.

#9. Athens, Greece

Where else would be better than the place Western theater was born. Whether it’s about plot lines, costumes, or set design, Athens has a deep history of theater productions and entertainment. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would be at home, especially with the detailed sets and production quality that the stage play sees.

One of the best places to go would be the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Every year, it becomes the home of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival. While Harry Potter isn’t a Greek drama, it would still be a beautiful place for the production to visit.

If you want an open-air production, how about the Lycabettus Theatre? This may be a little harder to pull off with the lighting and special effects, but as a one-night-only production, it would certainly draw in the crowds.

#8. Chicago, United States

In the United States, Broadway is the place to be but there are many other popular and globally known theaters. One of those is definitely in Chicago, which has a reputation dating back centuries. In fact, it also has a history of staging some of the biggest Broadway productions in the Loop, which would be the best location for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The Chicago Theatre is certainly worth the consideration for its connection to the greats.

Chicago has already seen some big names, especially in standup comedy. It would also be a central location for those in the north of the country and is one of the most easily accessible cities for the entire world.

#7. Niagara, Canada

While Toronto is one of the most famous cities in Canada, Niagara is one of the most beautiful. It’s easily overlooked for its theaters because of its beautiful falls, but it’s definitely a place for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It’s not like the production would have too far to travel!

Niagara-on-the-Lake has some of the best theaters for the production, home to some of the biggest productions in Ontario, including Man and Superman and  Pygmalion. Shaw Festival Theatre has an innovative set design, which would work beautifully with the Cursed Child set up, allowing for all the best moments to translate on the Canadian stage. Plus, there are plenty of things to do between the two halves of the performance, including a trip up the Skylon Tower for a rotating dinner or a trip around the Falls.

#6. Tokyo, Japan

How about a chance to visit the underground theater scene in Tokyo? That’s what you’d get in Shimokitazawa, which would be a great option for those who want a smaller production with the best quality. Of course, if there was the need for a larger production, there’s always the Hatsudai, which is known for its Shakespeare production and opera.

Tokyo is one of the most beautiful and bustling cities in the world. There are plenty of things to do and see between the breaks and there’s even the chance to bring Cursed Child during Festival Tokyo to really immerse into the culture. It will be worth visiting the smaller theaters that still perform the Japanese puppetry known as Osakan.

#5. Grahamstown, South Africa

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child needs to head to Africa at some point, and Grahamstown in South Africa is an excellent option when it comes to theater history. This is the home of the Grahamstown Arts Festival, which runs throughout the summer in a small university town still with the Victorian history.

There are Main and Fringe productions in the city throughout the year. Whether you want drama, opera, street theater, or main theater, there is something for all. Harry Potter would certainly find a good home for a year at least.

#4. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Let’s not forget about the beauty and color of Latin America. Argentina is one of the best options when it comes to beautiful 19th-century theaters and the best acoustics across the globe. It’s all about the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, especially for those who want nostalgia while they watch the continuation stageplay.

If you want something bigger, the production could go to what’s known as Buenos Aires’ Broadway, Avenida Corrientes. This is where Eva Peron (Evita) found her start on the stage and it’s only grown since. It’s immersive and interactive, making it the perfect place for the stage quality and special effects needed for the performance of wizardry and witchcraft. During the breaks, you’ll be able to watch live tangos in Lo Boca streets.

#3. Bogota, Colombia

Head north to the beautiful Colombia for its rich theater scene. The country does get a bad reputation for its dangerous countryside, but stick to the capital and the theater areas and it’s an excellent choice for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogota is one of the world’s biggest theater festivals, bringing visitors from across the globe. Hundreds of international theater groups get together and there are more than 800 performances throughout the festival.

This would be a great time to bring Cursed Child. Even just a short visit will give locals and travelers something to look forward to. With the festival, there will be plenty of things to do during the breaks in the play!

#2. Toronto, Canada

While Niagara has made the list, we can’t overlook the biggest theater district outside of London and New York. Toronto is a must-visit location, with a trip to the Royal Alexandra Theatre. This is the oldest theater in North America that has continuously and legitimately operated. The city itself has become the stop for many touring productions after they’ve been on Broadway, so why not bring Harry Potter and the Cursed Child here?

Of course, there are plenty of things to do and see in Toronto while you wait between the breaks. You’ll never be without ideas for places to eat and drink. If there were worries about the continuation production, there’s always the smaller Toronto Fringe Festival to check on the interest—although if London and New York is anything to judge, interest isn’t lacking.

#1. Edinburgh, Scotland

It’s time to take the production north of the West End to Edinburgh, the home of the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The capital of Scotland is also the home to deep-rooted history with stunning art and performances throughout the year. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would feel right at home here.

Theatergoers wouldn’t have problems in finding something to do during the breaks. The Royal Mile is the perfect spot for food and drink, along with street entertainment throughout the year. It does get busy during the Edinburgh Fringe, but it will just add to the experience and enthusiasm for the Harry Potter sequel.
