A complete set of signed Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling are about to go under the hammer and they are not as much as you might think.

When you hear that a complete set of Harry Potter books, signed by J.K. Rowling, are about to go up for sale. You instantly see dollar signs magically appearing in front of your eyes and notions of the books going for hundreds of thousands of dollars start to fly around.

Well, the idea of the books going for hundreds of thousands is, in fact, a bit over the top. A complete set of the books, all of them signed by Rowling herself, are about to go up for auction and are estimated to sell for £9,000-£15,000 ($12,000-$20,000).

More from Harry Potter

Much less than the hundreds of thousands some of us assume. Not as low as the time a lucky fan purchased a set for only £3 but still low.

This set is not just any normal signed set either. It is a first edition set and not just any first edition set but a complete deluxe edition first set. Meaning they are in a decorative cloth binding rather than the usual dust jackets. Making the auction price tag even more extraordinary.

The set is due to go up for sale at the Vectis Auction House in County Durham in July. The Vectis Auction House is not unfamiliar with auction such items. They have been known to auction other high profile fan memorabilia such as Star Wars and Marvel.

How much the books will sell for in the end will be interesting. They could end up going for much more or much less than the asking price. Less does seem unlikely considering how popular and sought after the collection will be. So you never know, they could go for that staggering hundred of thousands that some us believe they go for.
