Drake just threw a Degrassi reunion in new ‘Im Upset’ video
Drake’s new music video for his single “I’m Upset” is pure throwback magic, bringing his old Degrassi crew in for a high school reunion.
Today, Drake is seen as a rap icon. But rewind to the early 2000s, and we knew Aubrey Drake Graham as Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian teen drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation.
While Drake hasn’t had the best press lately (all that beef hasn’t been pretty), his new music video for his single “I’m Upset” is about to help all of that. In the video, we see Drake waking up to a calendar reminder for his high school reunion. He drags himself out of bed, but something’s off. Oh, Drake’s just sleeping mid-court at the Air Canada Centre. This is Drake, so do we question this? No.
Drake gets ready for the reunion in a slick suit, laying down his first few lines: “That’s why they need me out the way, What you expect?” Then, straight out of a #ThrowbackThursday post, Shane Kippel aka Spinner from Degrassi: The Next Generation shows up.
That high school reunion reminder makes a lot of sense now. Watch the video here:
In the video, we’re blasted with an overwhelming amount of Degrassi cameos. Looks like all of Aubrey Graham’s former co-stars came to party at Degrassi Community School, including: Nina Dobrev (Mia Jones), Lauren Collins (Paige Michalchuk), Cassie Steele (Manny Santos), Jake Epstein (Craig Manning), Stefan Brogran (Archie “Snake” Simpson), Adamo Rugguiero (Marco Del Rossi), Melissa McIntyre (Ashley Kerwin) and Ephraim Ellis (Rick Murray).
If that wasn’t enough, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes attend the reunion, reprising their roles of Jay and Silent Bob. Why come to a high school reunion? To sell their best product to the principal, of course. Degrassi fans will definitely get the reference, and remember the classic film Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh!.
Safe to say, fans are losing their minds.
But something does feel off… oh yea, Jimmy isn’t in a wheelchair anymore? Looks like Canadian healthcare is pretty great.
