Harry Potter actor Mark Williams starring in Doctor Dolittle
By Callum Gunn
Harry Potter actor Mark Williams will be in Bromley for a stage production of Doctor Dolittle, which will be full of visual puppetry.
Mark Williams is known to Harry Potter fans as Arthur Weasley. Capturing the hearts of the fans, he became the father figure we all wished Harry had after the death of James Potter. (Well, one of the father figures, since Sirius Black or Remus Lupin would have definitely also helped him become a skilled wizard and caring, young man.) Now, Williams is moving into a Hull stage production of Doctor Dolittle.
The production will be full of visual puppetry, reworking the original book to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original movie. The same songs as the original movie with Rex Harrison will also be included, including “Talk to the Animals,” which won an Academy Award. The movie was recreated in the 1990s with Eddie Murphy in the lead role.

This is certainly not going to be Williams’ first venture onto the stage. He’s done a number of productions throughout the country, although mostly at the Birmingham Repertory Theater. He will take on the lead role in the Bromley production, along with the other nine first venues on the international tour. Other casting is still to be announced.
