We all know that Chris Evans is our beloved Captain America but did you know that Sebastian Stan auditioned for the role as well?
Sebastian Stan plays Bucky Barnes in the Captain America films. While we love him as our dear James, did you know that he first auditioned for the role of Steve Rogers? He obviously didn’t land the part (it went to Chris Evans) but it doesn’t seem as if Sebastian is too broken up about it.
In an interview with CNBC Make It, Sebastian spoke about how he was told he was not “right for the part.” In the end, Stan feels it worked out because he got the part of Bucky. He told CNBC that the decision for him to play Cap’s best friend and not Cap himself “worked out” because he felt Being Bucky was a “much better role.”
How to MAKE IT like Sebastian Stan from CNBC.
His earlier career led itself more to a Bucky Barnes type to begin with. Still, it would have been an interesting switch to see Sebastian taking on a leading man role such as Steve.
Previous to the role of Bucky Barnes, Sebastian tended to play the sad son of important politicians. Or he was a sexy witch boy in The Covenant. When Bucky came into our lives, many fans of Sebastian were surprised by the switch.
We soon learned his role as Cap’s best friend wasn’t so different from what he’s taken on before as an actor. Stan’s pretty good at playing a tortured soul, even if it makes us want to protect him somehow.
Which is maybe what makes his Bucky so interesting. The character is written to be a suave lady’s man who is best friends with Steve Rogers pre-serum. The Winter Soldier provides an additional layer to the character. Yet with Sebastian, we see the pain all those deaths have on him, making Bucky an easy fan favorite.
So we agree with Sebastian. We’re glad he ended up being our James Buchanan Barnes. Now we just have to get that solo Winter Soldier movie going!
